It seems like there is a deliberate strategy to make each road journey a misery. Could be a rail strike, Friday cancellations, potholes, LTNs, Bus Gates, LEZ zone taxation – it all adds up. But to be fair, this closure is to enable a concrete bridge section to be eased into place, which is no easy task. Here’s the word from the RAC and to avoid missing a flight from Heathrow or Gatwick, take the train…only joking, please don’t trust the train. Just set off about 5 hours earlier than normal.
Ahead of a second weekend of M25 closures, RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson said: “As this next M25 weekend closure immediately follows major national rail strikes which could see many more people take to the roads, it could be up to six days of disrupted travel for London’s drivers. The closures also coincide with the retrofitting of new emergency areas on all-lane-running stretches of the M25, meaning delays are likely between junctions 5 and 7 in Surrey and Kent and junctions 23-27 in Hertfordshire and Essex.
“While the general advice is to avoid driving if possible, people will still need to make essential journeys for work, to access medical care and to reach Gatwick and Heathrow airports. Planning ahead is absolutely vital – rather than relying on a sat-nav, check the planned diversion routes ahead of time and be prepared for long delays. It’s also a really good idea to check your vehicle’s oil and coolant levels, tyre pressure and tread depth all before setting off to reduce the chances of a very unwelcome breakdown.”
