The London market has officially set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the most participants in a static cycle relay and has so far successfully raised £62,000 for Cancer Research.
The ‘EC3 Relay’ organised by Aventum, the fast growing International (Re)Insurance Group and involving participants collectively from across the London market, took place in the iconic Leadenhall market. The attempt ran across three days and two nights days, beginning at 10am on Tuesday 9thth July and running throughout the night until 4pm on Thursday 11th July to set a new world record for the ‘most participants in a static cycle relay’. Participants cycled at least 1km each in scheduled slots on a static bike placed on a purpose-built stage, covering a total 1,237km. A record 560 riders took part and Aventum smashed its target of raising £50,000.
Matt Field, Chief Marketing Officer for Aventum, comments: “We did it! We are now officially holders of a new Guinness World Record. What a fantastic achievement and testament to the collective power of the people in EC3. We put out a call to action and boy did the market respond! We had a flood of people wanting to play a part, from cyclists to volunteers – we had an army of people who generously offered their time and money to help achieve this dream. Thank you everyone. I’m so touched at the response and incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.”
F1 racing driver Ollie Bearman, son of Aventum’s owner and CEO David Bearman, took part in the event – taking a turn on the bike and being on hand to meet fans and offer encouragement.
Ollie Bearman said: “This was such an inspiring and worthy cause and I’m honoured to have been involved. The atmosphere was electric – such a heart warming sight to witness those across the city putting aside commercial competition for the greater good and having a great time doing it too.”
Matt Field concludes: “We did this challenge because we believe in the power of collective action to drive meaningful change. Cancer affects us all at some point in our lives. Every pound raised brings us closer to groundbreaking treatments, innovative therapies and ultimately, a cure.”
