Time once again for the latest round up of senior hires and appointments across the insurance sector;
AON
Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, has announced that Admiral James Stavridis has been appointed to its Board of Directors, effective Aug. 15, 2024.

Knight, chair of Aon’s board. “Admiral Stavridis’ experience as a retired four-star U.S. naval officer, partner and vice chair for global affairs at Carlyle and board chair of the Rockefeller Foundation will bring new insights to our Board as we look to deliver more value for Aon’s clients, colleagues and shareholders.”
Admiral Stavridis is currently Partner and Vice Chair, Global Affairs of Carlyle, a global investment firm, a position he has held since 2018. Admiral Stavridis is a former member of the United States Navy, serving from 1976 to 2013 and rising to the rank of four-star Admiral in 2009. His commands included four years as the 16th Supreme Allied Commander at NATO, where he oversaw operations in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, the Balkans, and counter piracy off the coast of Africa, as well as approximately three years commanding the U.S. Southern Command in Miami, charged with military operations throughout Latin America.
ROKSTONE
Rokstone, the International Speciality (Re)Insurance MGA and part of the Aventum Group, has announced the appointment of two senior management positions. Martin Thomas has been appointed Head of Underwriting Management and Stuart Lee has joined as Chief Actuary.
Rokstone has made the investment as it seeks to drive enhanced decision making and operational excellence across the business.
Stuart Lee joins from Markel where he was Chief Actuary, having spent 14 years within the actuarial function. Prior to this he held actuarial and economic analyst roles at KPMG and the Bank of England. Stuart brings a passionate yet pragmatic approach to actuarial excellence, going beyond regulatory requirements to deliver an actuarial function that is embedded with both underwriting and claims, and that communicates complex analysis simply to support both Rokstone’s internal decision making and its communication with external partners. As Chief Actuary for Rokstone, Stuart’s role will be to lead and build the MGA’s dedicated inhouse reserving and pricing functions with technical rigour.
HANNOVER RE
The Supervisory Board of Hannover Rück SE has appointed Brona Magee (49) as a member of the Executive Board of Hannover Re effective 1 January 2025. She succeeds Klaus Miller (64) on the Executive Board, who after 14 successful years with Hannover Re, will remain with the company in 2025 in an advisory role.
Brona Magee has successfully overseen Hannover Re’s Business Center Life & Health Asia since April 2023. Among other responsibilities she previously served as member of the Executive Committee at SCOR. At Hannover Re, together with Claude Chèvre, she will assume responsibility for the Life & Health reinsurance business group in the Executive Board.

At-Bay, the InsurSec provider for the digital age, announced today the appointment of Ken Riegler as President, At-Bay Insurance. Riegler brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the insurance industry, and is poised to advance At-Bay’s continued growth and service excellence.
Riegler joins At-Bay with over 25 years of experience in commercial underwriting, alternative risk management and distribution. Most recently, Riegler served as AIG’s President of North America General Insurance, Retail and Field Operations, overseeing a diverse multi-billion dollar portfolio including Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, and Specialty. Prior to this he was the President of North America Casualty for XL Catlin (now AXA XL) and President of ACE Group’s Multinational Client Group for North America (now Chubb).
EVOLIN
Evolin Broking Limited (“Evolin”), a leading independent London market wholesale insurance broker, announces the launch of its casualty division with three appointments.
Kalani Settle-Rhodes, head of casualty
Settle-Rhodes is Evolin’s new head of casualty. She is based in London and reports to managing director, Chris Baulf. Settle-Rhodes joins Evolin from Bowring Marsh where she was an international casualty broker for more than eight years. Prior to this, she spent 14 years on the underwriting side at Aviva, focusing on complex commercial and high net worth business.
Shelly Leake, senior broker
Leake joins Evolin as a senior broker. She is based in London and reports to Settle-Rhodes. Leake has extensive experience in broking, especially in the casualty market. She was previously on the international casualty team at Marsh. Prior to that, she also held positions in the Marsh Casualty Claims department and Swinton Insurance.
Oliver Hutchins, account executive
Hutchins joins Evolin as an account executive from Hugh J Boswell. He is based in London and reports to Settle-Rhodes. Hutchins has more than 17 years of industry experience, holding roles in both broking and underwriting. At Hugh J Boswell, Hutchins was a broker development manager. Prior to this, he was a commercial account handler at Marsh. He also spent more than nine years at Aviva mainly as an underwriter.
HSBC LIFE
HSBC Life (UK) Limited (“HSBC Life (UK)”) has appointed Richard Waters as Head of Protection Distribution.
Previously National Account Manager Protection Distribution at HSBC Life (UK), Richard brings more than 30 years’ experience to his new role having worked as a general insurance broker and latterly, in senior positions in HSBC’s mortgage intermediary and group insurance businesses. He will lead the Protection Intermediary Distribution team, overseeing key distribution relationships and a team of experienced business development professionals across the UK.
Richard’s primary objective is to develop existing and new strategic relationships, delivering quality training and education to advisers, empowering them to provide optimal protection solutions to their customers.
CFC

CFC, the specialist insurance provider, pioneer in emerging risk and market leader in cyber, today announces the expansion of its UK Cyber Development team.
Joe Tracey has been promoted to the role of Cyber Development Leader for the UK & EU. Since joining CFC almost two years ago, Joe has been instrumental in driving the growth of CFC’s UK based cyber business.
In this newly created role, Joe will be responsible for leading the growth and strategy of CFC’s cyber development in the UK and Ireland.
To support him, Jack Brosnan has joined CFC as Cyber Development Manager UK & EU. Jack has several years experience as a cyber security specialist and most recently spent almost two years at KYND in a business development role.
KEOGHS
Keoghs is expanding its professional and financial risks (ProFin) team with the appointment of new partner, Jo Lewis.
With over 14 years’ experience acting for insurers and their insureds in a wide variety of claims, including multi-million pound, cross-jurisdictional disputes, Jo’s expertise includes defending professional negligence claims against solicitors, construction professionals, property professionals, insolvency practitioners and accountants.
Jo, who will be in her new role from September, will be based in Birmingham, where she will lead and grow a new dedicated team enhancing Keoghs’ existing regional capability. Since 2017, the Keoghs ProFin team has grown by over 50 percent and has a presence in London and Liverpool, with Birmingham soon to be the third location for the team as well as a completely new office for Keoghs as a whole.
CIL
CIL, the growth strategy consulting firm with offices in the US, Europe and the UK, has appointed Matthew Birtch as Partner in its Chicago office. Based out of San Francisco, he will lead the firm’s North American Technology practice.
Matthew specialises in application, vertical, fintech & enterprise software with deep experience across cloud computing, cybersecurity, IT services and media technology. He also has a significant track record in private equity, with expertise in commercial and pricing due diligence, both key areas of CIL’s business.
