Prestige Underwriting’s latest broker survey reveals a strong surge in demand across key non-standard home and motor segments, demonstrating brokers’ robust appetite for tailored, specialist solutions as they respond to the growing complexities of client needs.
Unoccupied homes top the list, with 75% of brokers identifying this as a key growth area – up from 55% last year. Homes at risk of flooding followed closely, rising to 64% from 55%. Thatched properties also saw a notable increase in broker interest, up from 12% to 17%. Meanwhile, homes at risk of subsidence remained a steady area of focus, with 27% of brokers citing continued opportunity despite a slight dip.
On the motor side, demand for cover for high-performance vehicles rose again, with 36% of brokers marking it as a key segment, compared to 32% in 2024.
Brokers’ insight and experience are central to Prestige Underwriting’s approach. Their feedback has directly influenced several key developments, including Prestige Underwriting becoming the first MGA to partner with Flood Re and support its Build Back Better scheme.
Equally, recognising the impact of probate delays on the growth of unoccupied homes, Prestige Underwriting this past year launched a comprehensive Short-Term Unoccupied Property Insurance product. Designed specifically to protect homes during the probate process, the policy offers estate planners and brokers the flexibility they need to ensure continued cover.
Alison Williams, Managing Director at Prestige Underwriting, commented:
“These findings reaffirm what we hear from our broker partners every day – non-standard is where opportunity lies. Whether it’s unoccupied homes, high-performance cars or homes at flood risk, brokers are looking for dependable, specialist solutions that meet evolving client needs.
“At Prestige, we take that insight seriously. That’s why we were the first MGA to back Flood Re’s Build Back Better initiative, and why we’ve developed innovative products like our Short-Term Unoccupied Property Insurance. Both are designed to help brokers respond with confidence in a market that evolves at pace.”
Prestige Underwriting remains committed to supporting brokers as they navigate these opportunities, offering bespoke solutions for non-standard risks and leveraging specialist expertise to ensure brokers can continue to deliver value to their clients.
