World Nomads Adds Over-The-Air Doctor Coverage

An emergency call to a doctor is one of those things you might never need, but if you are on an adventure travel trip then it’s good to know that back-up is there. Here’s the word;

Global travel insurer World Nomads has announced its strategic integration of Air Doctor, a medical network that connects travellers with trusted local doctors in-destination.

This partnership is designed to provide policyholders with seamless access to non-emergency medical care worldwide, elevating the standard of healthcare support available through World Nomads’ travel insurance policies. With Air Doctor, World Nomads policyholders can now conveniently find and book appointments with vetted doctors in over 75 countries, ensuring they receive timely, high-quality medical attention while abroad.

Air Doctor’s digital platform will allow policyholders to search for doctors by location, specialty, and language, helping eliminate the stress and uncertainty often associated with seeking healthcare in unfamiliar countries.

Travellers can simply search for a doctor in their destination city, choose between in-person or telemedicine consultations and book an appointment directly through the platform. The service is cashless and hassle-free for customers, with no need to pay upfront and claim later for the appointment.  The integration follows in the wake of World Nomads’ Travel Anxiety Report 2024, which found that more than a quarter (26.4%) of British holidaymakers don’t know what they would do if they needed medical attention abroad, despite three in five (60%) believing they could fall sick whilst travelling.

World Nomads’ Travel Anxiety Report 2024 also found that:

  • 47.5% of respondents are most concerned about the cost of treatment abroad, underscoring the financial risks of medical emergencies

  • One in three (34.5%) worry about access to quality healthcare, reflecting concerns about the adequacy of medical facilities abroad

  • Nearly a third (31.9%) of Brits are concerned about being able to return home after a medical emergency, highlighting the importance of repatriation coverage.

  • Nearly three in five (57.7%) Brits prioritise coverage for medical emergencies or evacuations, showing that health risks are the primary concern for travellers

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager UK and Europe at World Nomads, says:

We are excited to bring the Air Doctor platform to our customers. This innovative service aligns with our mission to empower travellers to explore the world with peace of mind, knowing they have access to reliable healthcare when they need it most.

Air Doctor is a welcome addition for policyholders as it’s seamless, cashless and claimless, and transcends language barriers. It’s also a welcome addition for the destinations we insure against, as it reduces the stress and burden on their healthcare systems.

The integration highlights the manifold benefits of our strategic underwriting partnership with Collinson Group, as our enhanced product improves the customer experience by adding increased coverage limits and new benefits that apply to both AMT and single-trip policies.”
