HDI Global Launches Climate Consulting Service

The latest from HDI Global;

HDI Global is strengthening its commitment to resilient risk management by introducing Climate Consulting, a new service designed to help businesses assess and mitigate climate-related risks. This service enables companies to analyse location-specific exposure to chronic and acute physical climate risks and develop targeted measures to mitigate these risks.

As climate change accelerates, companies worldwide are facing growing challenges. Extreme weather events, rising temperatures and more frequent heavy rainfall as well as periods of drought are affecting the operational safety and future viability of many companies, forcing them to adapt to the changing conditions. Climate Consulting empowers companies to understand their risks and respond proactively.

“With Climate Consulting, we are addressing the growing demand from our clients for actionable, operational recommendations that enhance climate resilience,” says Lars Regner, Head of Resilience Services at HDI Risk Consulting. “With Climate Risk Reporting, HDI has been offering companies support since last year to help them comply with the regulations required by the EU taxonomy.”

“Businesses that recognise their heightened exposure to climate risks are seeking ways to implement effective mitigation methods. Climate Consulting supports these companies with recommendations based on solid data and on-site visits – helping identify and manage climate risks and increase their resilience in the long run. Through a comprehensive technical risk assessment of specific plants, processes, and operations, Climate Consulting analyses future physical climate risks and proposes effective risk-mitigation strategies”, says Regner.

Companies can get to know the new service and other relevant content on climate change during HDI Global’s online ‘Resilience Week’, which takes place from 17-21 March.

A data-driven approach to climate risk management

Climate Consulting assesses the physical climate risks based on three climate scenarios over different time periods up to the year 2100. This approach ensures businesses receive a forward-looking evaluation of their climate exposure and customised recommendations. The service includes:

  • Desktop assessment: analysis of topography, regional climate, current natural hazards and future physical climate risk exposures
  • On-site inspection: Identification of potential climate risk impacts on infrastructure, logistics, facilities and processes
  • Climate risk advisory report: Preparation of a site-specific report with risk mitigation measures

Dr. Dirk Höring, Member of the Executive Board of HDI Global, responsible for Property, Engineering and Marine Insurance as well as HDI Risk Consulting, underscores the importance of this initiative:

“By embedding Climate Consulting in our service portfolio, we reinforce our role as a strategic and reliable Partner in Transformation helping businesses navigate the growing complexities of climate risks. We offer holistic and future-oriented solutions to overcome climate-related challenges and strengthen the resilience of companies in the long term. Climate change is advancing, and even in the absence of immediate natural catastrophes, businesses must recognise their vulnerabilities and take proactive steps to protect themselves. It is crucial to know your risk and how to protect yourself.”

At HDI Risk Consulting, an internal division at HDI Global, more than 200 engineers and risk specialists from many different disciplines worldwide work together to look for innovative solutions that go beyond traditional risk management methods.
