Local women were at the office of Liberty Mutual today to make sure their employees were aware of the role their company had in supporting the fossil fuel industry. At midday Protesters entered & occupied the lobby of Lowry House on 17 Marble Street Manchester, before being joined by a samba band outside. They remained there for several hours.
Employees and passers-by were given leaflets telling them that Liberty were insuring Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) terminals on the US Gulf Coast including Freeport lNG in Texas and Cameron LNG in Louisiana, both plants with a poor safety record, impacting on local people, as well as emitting greenhouse gases that are warming our planet.
In the lobby, the women highlighted that Liberty have not yet ruled out insuring the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline and read out testimonies from people in Uganda and Tanzania whose lives had already been impacted by the pipeline.
