Research by SportsCover Direct – offering comprehensive, specialist and unique insurance products to those involved in the sports and leisure activities – analysed its recent* first-party claims data which revealed that 41% of the recent sports holiday claims received made reference to at least one injury type.
Sean Walsh, Head of Marketing at SportsCover Direct commented: “Google searches for ‘adventure holidays’ spiked at the end of July. With this in mind, we analysed our recent* first-party claims data to determine which activities were the most likely to result in injury claims. Looking at the activity types related to these claims, cycling accounted for the majority of the claims (47%), with watersports (28%) following close behind”.
Activities that were amongst those analysed included:
- Cycling (47%)
- Watersports (28%)
- Hiking and trekking (7%)
- Climbing and bouldering (7%)
- Skydiving (4%)
- Thai boxing (4%)
- Horse riding (3%)
- Golf (1%)
Walsh continued: “Travel insurance with sports cover differs from most basic travel policies as it will also protect you whilst participating in a large range of sports abroad. This includes extreme sports, competitions and training camps, which in most cases would not be covered under many other standard travel insurance policies.
