The new Centre of Excellence will create more than 200 roles in data analysis, software development, and quality assurance.
The latest update from the IUA;
A new London Market underwriting group for underwriters in the early years of their career has been established by the International Underwriting Association (IUA). The NextGen Underwriting Committee will support the development of new industry talent and play a leading role in the delivery of education and training opportunities through the IUA Futures programme.
Members of the new committee are professionals from across the IUA’s member firms with up to ten years of experience. They represent a range of different insurance and reinsurance business classes.
The IUA Futures programme is led by Ela Metalia, who joined the association in 2022 after graduating from Queen Mary University London.
She said: “The NextGen Underwriting Committee will be at the centre of underwriting talent development across the London company market. Its crucial function will be to ensure industry training initiatives are useful and relevant. It will also liaise with industry leaders from across the IUA’s senior underwriting committees to understand the skills and knowledge that will be required in the future.
“Our IUA Futures programme aims to furnish people with the essential skills and professional networks they need to establish successful careers. Now it is being driven by a group that can provide a perspective directly aligned with those it seeks to benefit.”
The NextGen Underwriting Committee has already hosted its first meeting where participants were introduced to existing IUA underwriting activity and discussed strategies for expanding the association’s educational engagement with member companies. Also on the committee’s agenda is developing content ideas for the IUA’s ongoing Underwriting Essentials series of webinars and workshops.
The group will run alongside a similar NextGen Claims Committee that was established last year.
