Targa Telematics Rated as Leader in The Sector

The latest update from Targa Telematics;
Targa Telematics, one of the world’s leading players in AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) for the development of digital solutions and platforms for connected mobility, has confirmed its position as the leading provider of telematics systems for the rental and leasing market in Europe, as highlighted in the latest Telematics for Rental and Leasing Fleets report by Berg Insight, now in its fourth edition.
According to the report, which provides an overview of the European and North American markets at the end of 2025, Targa Telematics has 979,000 active telematics systems in the rental and leasing segments. The figure places the company close to the leading player in the sector, which operates mainly in North America, and gives it a lead of more than 380,000 systems over the third-ranked player. This further strengthens Targa Telematics’ position in Europe, where it is recognised as a reference point for the industry.
Market context
The report underlines sustained growth in the market. The installed base of active telematics systems in Europe is expected to increase from 4.65 million at the end of 2025 to 8.96 million by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14%. In the leasing segment alone, the number of telematics systems in use is forecast to increase from 3.48 million to 6.82 million over the same period (CAGR of 14.4%), with the penetration rate rising from 46% to 77.7%.
Against this backdrop, Italy stands out as the most advanced market in Europe in both the rental and leasing segments. Telematics penetration in the rental sector reached 90% at the end of 2025, underpinned by a regulatory environment that favours the adoption of telematics systems for insurance purposes.
“Berg Insight’s latest recognition highlights the strength of Targa Telematics’ approach, bringing together advanced technology, strong partnerships across the automotive sector and a service model designed to support customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their fleets. With the European market continuing to grow, our focus is on further strengthening our leadership position through ongoing innovation, particularly by applying Artificial Intelligence across processes including fleet management and vehicle security,” said Chris Horbowyj, UK Commercial Director at Targa Telematics.
The strengths of Targa Telematics
Berg Insight has highlighted the breadth of Targa Telematics’ service offering, which positions the company as a technology solution provider thanks to its end-to-end solutions, from in-vehicle hardware to software management, and its software modules, which, when integrated into customers’ IT infrastructure, drive the digital transformation of their operations. The report also recognises Targa Platform, the company’s proprietary cloud-based and “hardware-agnostic” platform, which, powered by Artificial Intelligence including Agentic AI, unlocks proactive detection of anomalies and risks. Specific applications of this approach include Vehicle Delivery Monitoring, a new solution enabling data-driven, real-time monitoring of the entire vehicle delivery process for leasing companies, and Maintenance Excellence, which leverages Agentic AI to transform maintenance from a set of separate activities into an intelligent and coordinated process.
Expanding OEM integration and partnerships
The report illustrates how the integration of Viasat Group, completed in May 2023, has allowed Targa Telematics to further cement its leadership in insurance telematics and fleet management, expanding both its European footprint and its technology offering.
Another key element contributing to Targa Telematics’ success in Europe is its range of partnerships with automotive manufacturers for the integration of native vehicle data streams. These partnerships now cover more than 45 automotive brands, including Audi, BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Stellantis, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo, with Hyundai being the latest addition. This partnership will provide access to native data from Hyundai vehicles in Europe without the need for additional hardware installation, supporting advanced maintenance, stolen vehicle recovery, claims management and EV management.
Managed services for customers
To complete the offering available to leasing companies, Targa Telematics provides an array of managed services, including hardware logistics, installation, field support, a network of SVR (Stolen Vehicle Recovery) control rooms and 24/7 help desks, as well as an ecosystem of more than 100 partners already integrated into the platform. The report underscores the agility of the company’s model, which enables the delivery of customised solutions with an implementation cycle usually no longer than three months. It also outlines how Targa Telematics actively assists rental and leasing companies in launching and scaling new mobility products based on its keyless technology.
