Artificial Intelligence is estimated to eradicate a great many jobs in the future, but is it so different from previous developments in IT or technology in general? Remember when the Cloud didn’t exist, offices had fax machines and a man used to turn up and REPAIR the photo copier on a regular basis? Yes kids, that old school stuff actually happened. Even today’s millennials may well recall the many web brower companies of the 1990s, (Ask Jeeves anyone?) or a time before social media channels when you had to log into a forum to post anonymous hate mail.
Times change, and the interesting development for many in the Insurtech sector is the creation of new AI development and associated roles. Yes, AI is prompting new opportunities in the workplace.
Here’s some news from EBI.AI, who are looking for three new interns;
Leading UK artificial intelligence (AI) specialist, EBI.AI, has announced three new 12-month internships at its Warwick-based lab, following the success of its current intern programme, and to allow the company to meet its ambitious expansion plans.
EBI.AI is among the most advanced UK labs to explore the potential of artificial intelligence and chatbots, and has turned its exciting discoveries into natural and valuable tools for a variety of businesses, including international ferry operator Stena Line; a major automotive manufacturer, and one of the biggest real estate companies in the world.
Operating in ‘stealth mode’ since 2014, it is now releasing its cutting-edge technology to the wider market.
EBI.AI founder Matthew Doel said: “It is part of our vision to address the AI skills shortage in the UK by investing in the next generation of developers. With recent rapid advances in this field, demand has escalated and there is a real shortage of talented AI specialists to fulfil this.
“We are committed to training and encouraging the stars of tomorrow, and pride ourselves on offering a competitive internship programme that enables candidates to grow and develop in a busy lab.
“We are building a team of the best AI developers, and the interns will be part of a fast-paced start-up style culture, working on projects for large multi-national companies at the cutting edge of AI technology.”
Built using IBM Watson technology, EBI.AI can deliver the most advanced conversational AI chatbots to enable businesses to maximise their customer satisfaction.
Matthew explains: “People don’t want to ‘engage with your brand’. They want to talk to you. Whether they’re booking a ticket, ordering a takeaway, changing a flight or asking a question, people are busy and expect a resolution straight away. Our artificial intelligence gives your brand the fast, smart and personal helper you need to turn your customers into happy customers – wherever they are.”
Candidates for the internships must have good SQL skills, be proficient in at least one programming language, i.e. Node.js PHP, Python or JavaScript, have good HTML/CSS and problem-solving skills with the ability to think logically and reason through problems.
Responsibilities will include participating in the development, testing and support of AI solutions, such as designing and developing scripts, processes, questions, answers and consistent personalities for the artificial intelligence agents.
The role will suit a student who has completed at least two years of study and who is looking to gain valuable experience in app development, specifically in the AI arena.
Edward Compton, a Computer Science Undergraduate at the University of Warwick, has been an intern at EBI.AI since 2017.
He said: “Developing chatbots has introduced me to a wide range of new skills that complement my degree nicely.”
“Much of my job involves creating new techniques to solve problems like: How do we ask the user questions and understand their answers? And, what happens when the user changes the subject?”
