
Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe (AND-E) – parent company of insurethebox, the pioneer of telematics-based car insurance has taken the accolade for Excellence in Health and Wellbeing in the 2019 CIPD North East England Awards. Recognising innovative initiatives that improve health and wellness in local organisations, the award follows another strong year for the business who owns the insurethebox brand and is one of the largest employers in Newcastle’s Quorum Business Park.

Focusing on employee wellbeing is, therefore, crucial and we are delighted to receive this award in recognition of our latest initiatives in this area. We have invested heavily in the North East and will continue to create and innovate programmes which are modern, flexible and personal and which allow us to provide the best possible employee experience which in turn, serves our customers’ needs”.
The latest award win recognises the achievements and success of the AND-E group in delivering personalised and relevant programmes for its colleagues which focussed on six key areas:
Mental Health: The introduction of 13 mental health first aiders across the business supporting colleagues with mental health issues, as well as three dedicated Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse (DVSA) champions in the business and up to six free face to face counselling sessions provided for each colleague.
Financial Education: Pension advisory clinics to encourage colleagues to consider financial plans for their future as well as increasing life assurance cover for all colleagues from two to three times their salary.
Physical Health: 24-hour GP support with the ability to book a phone or video GP appointment within hours as well as healthcare cash plans that provide a simple, affordable way to cover healthcare costs. In addition, a monthly health allowance of £20 for colleagues to spend on supporting their own health goals which could go towards anything from a gym membership, all the way through to coffee with friends.
Community Connections: Building on its growing success to improve the quality of its employees lives and those of their local community, a Connected Community initiative launched 4 volunteering days across the organisation. Partnering with charities and local community projects, the initiative offers colleagues in the business the opportunity to actively help others and witness how their efforts create positive outcomes in their community.
Personal and Professional Development: Promoting personal enrichment and growth, short courses has seen a number of employees enrol on ‘level 2’ programmes from Awareness of Mental Health Problems, to Health and Nutrition courses. In addition, its ‘Keep In Development’ Days (KID) enables those on maternity leave to attend up to five paid development sessions during their maternity leave on topics such as paediatric first aid, personal resilience, career planning, family financial wellbeing and healthy eating.
Environment Enhancements: Enhancement of the physical working environment in the Newcastle hub, includes a ‘mindfulness’ room where colleagues can retreat to either pray, relax, or for new mothers to ‘express’.
AND-E was also shortlisted in the Excellence in People Development category, in recognition of its commitment to innovative skills development programmes, enabling its people to deliver exceptional customer service.
The CIPD North East England awards were established in 2007 and a panel of judges are tasked with looking at the extent to which submissions meet the category criteria and for any compelling evidence that illustrates the power of the achievement.
