Global law firm Clyde & Co launched its new flagship Manchester office with a special event for the city’s business community and politicians.
The firm celebrated the opening of premises in Manchester’s iconic Royal Exchange building – the first time Clyde & Co’s 500-plus Manchester-based staff has been housed under one roof. The move comes at a time of sustained growth for the firm in the city, with both revenue and headcount doubling in the past five years.
Over 50 guests attended the launch event, including Manchester Council leader Sir Richard Leese on a night that was themed as a celebration of ‘influential Mancunians’ thanks to the artworks commissioned for the new office depicting great Mancunians and places in Manchester associated with them.
Although Clyde & Co has been one of the largest law firms in Manchester since 2011, its teams have been based in multiple locations across the city centre. The move into this new 80,000 sq ft space in Royal Exchange unites all the firm’s teams dealing with insurance, transport, infrastructure, employment, corporate and commercial law.
Richard Leese, says: “The legal sector is one of many which is flourishing in Manchester thanks to the city’s business-friendly environment and our exceptional talent pool. We’re very pleased that a global law firm like Clyde & Co continues to see Manchester as a key hub for its global activity and now has over 500 people housed under one roof in the historic Royal Exchange Building, right in the heart of the city.”
David Wynn, Clyde & Co’s Managing Partner for the Manchester office, says: “Our new home in Manchester provides us with modern, top spec office space that allows us to house our entire and growing team in a single location.
“Manchester is hugely important to Clyde & Co because of its broad based economy and strong market for legal talent. It’s the third-largest of our 52 offices and associated offices globally and is home to many of our sector focused teams including employment, real estate and our market-leading insurance casualty practice.”
Natalie Griffin, Clyde & Co’s Chief Operating Officer based in Manchester, says: “Being under one roof in a newly refurbished, modern professional environment is a significant milestone as it provides further opportunity for our teams to work more collaboratively and flexibly. Our Manchester base is a centre of excellence for insurance and it is the testbed for many of the client innovations we roll out further afield, such as the use of data analysis to combat insurance fraud. Our new office provides a platform for our people to work in an inspirational environment.”
Clyde & Co is now one of the largest employers in Manchester’s legal sector. The firm has a current headcount of 537 in the city and continues to recruit for new posts. Employee numbers have risen by 29% over the last two years.
The firm is leasing 80,000 sq ft in Royal Exchange. The space is split across five floors and has 552 workstations.
