An ex-solider and social media influencer has just launched a new price comparison site offering insurance and finance deals for serving members of the armed forces, plus advice on making claims against the MOD.
Alfie Usher spent over a decade as a para in the British army and served in Afghanistan on two occasions. He rose to levels of fame on social media through his Facebook group called Fill Your Boots – a satirical group talking about army life with currently over 80,000 members.
The ex-para and entrepreneur has recently launched his comparison site, Forces Compare, explaining that “When you are in the military, all your finances and insurance requirements are taken care of, and you are in this bubble. It’s great, but once that bubble bursts it is quite hard.”
Usher is passionate about raising awareness and supporting ex-serving members of the Armed Forces. In December 2017, Usher, alongside a group of other veterans, braved the streets of Newcastle to raise awareness for the many ex-military personnel that struggle with homelessness and mental illness. He has another rough sleep scheduled for later this year.
The free-to-use price comparison site was set up to help other former soldiers and veterans in a similar position; and offer affordable and simple policies for things like military personal accident insurance, military kit insurance and and military contents insurance.
Forces Compare offers hundreds of quotes for both civilian and military specific policies, working with partners including Forces Solutions, Towergate and Quotezone.
“The traction has been good so far,” says Usher, with over 15,000 visitors to the site each month, despite only launching in the summer.
“We have plans to roll out further products the military such as credit cards, bank accounts and refunds on different items. We want to give back to the community wherever we can and are speaking with various army charities about potential collaborations and how we can work together.”
