Charities across the UK are reported to be struggling as donations dry up in the face of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Although the government has announced some emergency cash for charities, many are struggling right now.
For Bloomin’ Dementia in Nottingham the drop in donations could not have come at a worst time, as they have ramped up their support services, to deliver food and other essential items to numerous people living with dementia, the elderly and the vulnerable, in and around the city.
However, LexisNexis Risk Solutions which has one of its main offices in the city, has come to their aid – in just 24 hours, as the business raised over £1k adding to £5k already donated, to sustain the charity’s vital work.
LexisNexis Risk Solutions is a data, advanced analytics and technology provider, to the insurance market. The company is now helping the charity spread the word that more help is needed.
Andy Hallam of Bloomin’ Dementia said: “Those individuals and their families living with the effects of dementia, are particularly vulnerable, because they have to be reminded of the risks of COVID19 and in general, do not understand about the virus and its terrible effects.
“As a local charity however, we do not just want to help those with dementia, we feel we can also help other vulnerable people in the city as well – the homeless and also, families on the breadline. To this end, we are joining the ‘Open Kitchens’ appeal, a new charitable initiative supported by The Great Northern Group. This is a nationwide charitable pledge, to cook 1,000 dinners a week, at various commercial outlets, for the vulnerable in our community. We are prepared to help as many people as we can.

Lesley Troke, a Trustee and volunteer for Bloomin’ Dementia spoke on behalf of those people affected by dementia and their families and carers by saying: “Life is never normal living with dementia but Bloomin’ Dementia is extending a lifeline to as many people as we can, at a particularly challenging time. We would ask that people and businesses out there, if they are able to, to please think about how badly this crisis is affecting charities, their volunteers and the people to whom they provide vital support to.”

We might think self-isolation is hard but this is a hugely challenging time for the most vulnerable people in our society and we all need to do our bit to make this period of time as safe and manageable as possible for everyone in our community.”
