Animal Friends Insurance Launches Charity Appeal

This summer Animal Friends Pet Insurance achieved a huge milestone of One Million live pet policies however, they are not stopping there, they are well on their way to achieve even more ambitious goals in animal welfare, technological advances and building new products and services to benefit both pets and their owners.

In the past six months our team have paid out over £44 million in vet bills, medications and treatments to keep pet family members healthy across the UK. Common problems have included skin allergies, cancer, heart problems and bone/joint mobility conditions and we don’t just look at covering treatments, we want to help prevent pets from suffering in the first place so are constantly on the lookout for new ways to help customers best care for their pets.

Westley Pearson, Managing Director said: “We are pleased to achieve over One Million live policies which represents the trust and confidence that our customers have in us.

The key to reaching this milestone has been our dedication to continually listen and connect with our customers ensuring we continue to be dynamic and forward thinking in meeting customers and their pet’s needs. Although we have achieved a great deal already, the passion and innovation doesn’t stop here, we are excited about the future bringing new products and tech advances to benefit customers both new and existing.

We continue to invest in new technology to improve services, and tech has played a big part at Animal Friends Insurance for the last 10 years with continuous improvements in online claims but also in developing our internal systems providing self-service components for our customers. The innovation of our partnership with Joii, the online vet experts, looks not just at reactive care but genuinely cares about animal welfare with a wealth of practical and preventative advice tailored to each individual pet available from the comfort of your own home.

Even in these difficult times during the COVID crisis we have worked hard to continue to provide a seamless service, to reassure our customers we are here for them and their pets. We strive to ensure that customers receive the excellent service they have come to expect from us and look forward to helping even more pets to receive the best health care over the coming years.”

Animal Friends Insurance are proud to look after 11,828 Bella’s, 11,483 pets named Poppy and 11,056 Alfie’s, with Max and Bailey making the top ten most common names with just over 7,000 pets each, but no matter what their name is the health and wellbeing of all animals is our priority and to celebrate our One Million policy achievement, we are making a very special pledge.

AFI was founded to support animal welfare charities and building on that ethos and strong values we have gone from strength to strength. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our success than by helping to support more animals in need so will be donating a total of One Million pounds to animal charities this year!

In 2019 we gave just over £600,000 to animal charities and are so pleased to be in a position to help even more deserving charities this year. Our staff tell us one of the main reasons they work for AFI is due to the knowledge that we are giving back to the animal community, helping fund research and further conservation of many different vulnerable species, and we know that many of our customers share our vision and chose insurance for their pet with us for this  very reason.

To date (31 July 2020) Animal Friends have already donated a total of £411,000 to charities both in the UK and abroad. We have been inundated with requests during the COVID crisis and are working hard to help as many charities as we can.

64 charities have already benefited in 2020 and include, Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary, Sharks Trust, Safe Haven for Donkeys, RDA Wilton, Dean Farm Trust, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Leicester Animal Aid, Greyhound Gap, Hope Nature Centre and Cotswold’s Dog and Cat Sanctuary to name just a few.

The money has been spent on shelter, accommodation, food, veterinary care, education and helping to keep these wonderful charities going during this very difficult time when many charities are struggling to continue to provide the basic necessities for the animals in their care.

To kick off our million-pound pledge on Monday 3rd August we are asking the public to vote for their favourite charity from a list of ten. The top five lucky winners will each receive a £10,000 donation and the runners up will also receive a prize. Please visit Animal Friends Insurance Facebook to take part in the vote.

UK registered animal welfare charities not involved in the vote this time are welcome to visit our website Apply for funding.  Charities must be focused on animal welfare and UK registered with the charity commission to be eligible.
