Sale-based commercial insurance broker, The Insurance Octopus, has appointed Helen Bush to the role of director, the most senior position within the company. Helen has held the position of head of finance and support services for 11 years and has been instrumental in the business’s success.
The Insurance Octopus provides tailored insurance policies to around 35,000 small businesses.
Carbon Underwriting Limited (Carbon), the leading specialist, independent managing general underwriter (MGU), is pleased to announce the appointment of Hugo Bashall as Head of Operations with immediate effect.

ALLIANZ GLOBAL CS
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) today announced the appointment of Anthony Vassallo as the new Regional Head of Energy & Construction for Regional Unit London and Nordics, effective immediately.
In this role, Anthony will lead AGCS’ Energy & Construction business across the UK, Ireland, and Nordics with responsibility for the profitability of the portfolio and driving established and future solutions in these important areas of risk. He will report to Alfredo Alonso, Managing Director Regional Unit London and Nordics with an additional reporting line to AGCS’ Global Head of Energy & Construction. Anthony remains based in the London office of AGCS, Allianz’s entity for large-scale corporate and specialty risks. He succeeds Tracey Hunt who is leaving for an external opportunity outside the Allianz Group.
Gallagher has appointed Martin Rossiter as partner in its aerospace practice. He will be focused on the further evolution of Gallagher’s industry value proposition and will be supporting clients with their wider risk management needs.
Martin has an extensive background of over 35 years in aviation risk spanning both insurance market and industry roles. He joins Gallagher from Etihad where he spent the last five years as head of group insurable risk management delivering solutions and services to protect Ethiad’s assets, liabilities and human capital in line with corporate strategy. Prior to this he was head of aviation underwriting and industry proposition for Generali Global Corporate & Commercial, following senior broking and consulting roles at AON and Sedgwick.
Specialist insurer Beazley has named Raf Sanchez as its new Global Head of Cyber Services
Sanchez, currently International Manager of Beazley Breach Response Services, assumes his new Global Head of Cyber Services role on the 1st October, and joins the Global Cyber & Tech Management Team. He will continue to be based in London.
Beazley is a market leader in cyber insurance, and Sanchez has been integral to the development of Beazley’s breach response services, which are a key element of the Beazley Breach Response (BBR) product that was launched in 2009. The pre and post loss services that BBR’s reputation has been built upon continue to develop, and are increasingly important in the face of rising global cyber threats and severity of attacks.
Dr William James has been appointed Head of Technical Underwriting at Markerstudy, reporting to Gary Humphreys, Group Chief Underwriting Officer.
William joins Markerstudy from Willis Towers Watson, where he was most recently responsible for analytics development and innovation of their non-life insurance software suite, integrating machine learning and AI methods into their products. He also led the non-life insurance pricing consulting practice for Willis Towers Watson in France for four years. Prior to this, he worked at AXA Group in Paris, as a risk manager in catastrophe risk and reinsurance.
William began his career in Australia. After teaching statistics at the University of Melbourne during his Ph.D., he joined Optimal Decisions Group, now part of LexisNexis, where he specialised in behavioural modelling for insurance and led the development of their price optimisation engine.
Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor, has announced the appointment of Michele Pignotti as Global Growth Leader, Credit Specialties, effective immediately. Based in Italy, he reports to Nick Robson, Global Practice Leader, Credit Specialties, Marsh Specialty.
In his role as Global Growth Leader, Mr. Pignotti will work with Mr. Robson to deliver the services and solutions offered by Credit Specialties to support clients in managing their surety, credit, and political risk and insurance needs, particularly as they adapt to the post COVID-19 trading environment and growing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulatory requirements.
The Jensten Group has appointed Jonathan Skinner to the newly created role of Group Placement Director and Amy Smith as Group Marketing Director.
Jonathan will take up the position later this year, and will join the Jensten Group Executive Committee, which recently welcomed Amy Smith as Group Marketing Director. Amy joined Jensten Group in August and previously held similar senior marketing roles at Ed Broking and Bluefin.
Jonathan will be responsible for driving forward the acquisitive broking group’s insurer placement strategy across its retail insurance broking, Lloyd’s and London Market broking, and specialist underwriting arms. He will be focused on the development of core insurance partner relationships, facilities, and products across the group to ensure that brokers and clients continue to have access to the best insurance solutions available.

Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced the hire of Partner David Kerwin, who joins the firm’s national insurance group, based in Brisbane.
David brings immense expertise in handling complex (and often novel) matters involving property risks, financial lines, D&O liability, professional indemnity, policy coverage and defence health/life insurance lines. He is an experienced litigator and widely recognised for his technical skills, commerciality and practical approach.
David will add depth to Clyde & Co’s market leading property and business interruption offering and he will be key in executing the firm’s commitment to the SME market.
Resilience Cyber Insurance Solutions, providing comprehensive insurance coverage and patented cybersecurity tools, continues building its experienced insurance team with the addition of Kyle Bryant as International Chief Underwriting Officer to lead overseas expansion. Bryant joins Resilience from Chubb Overseas General Insurance where he was responsible for the strategy, development, and financial performance of the Cyber and Technology lines of business in international markets. His joining Resilience signals a growth path for the company after a strong market reaction to their Insure and Secure model – and the firm’s global trajectory delivering cyber insurance and security to mid-market companies.

Lonmar Global Risks (Lonmar), part of Global Risk Partners (GRP), has hired experienced specialist financial lines broker Giles Smithson to support the team’s growth plans for its UK and international financial lines proposition.
Giles, who joins Lonmar from Besso, joined Lonmar at the beginning of September as divisional director, Financial and Specialty Lines. He reports to executive director Karen Allen. Commenting on his new role, Giles said: “My immediate task is to help our clients navigate their way through a challenging period for financial lines, which is experiencing a hardening market as a result of past losses and concerns about the impact of the pandemic.”
