It’s about time we did a round-up of senior hires and various job moves, so here goes;

MARSH

Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor, has announced the appointment of Justine Mayhew as CEO, UK & Ireland, of Bowring Marsh, Marsh’s international placement business, effective 1 January 2022. Ms. Mayhew will be based in London and report to Tom Davies, Global CEO, Bowring Marsh.

In this role, Ms. Mayhew will lead Bowring Marsh’s London-based team of international placement specialists and provide risk transfer solutions, benchmarking, and claims advocacy services to clients through Marsh’s global network. She will also work closely with Marsh’s international placement leaders across 10 regional placement hubs to develop solutions that support clients’ insurance and risk management objectives. Ms. Mayhew succeeds Ryan Bond, who has been appointed as Head of Climate and Sustainability Insurance Innovation.

MNK RE

MNK Re Limited, the leading independent broker of worldwide specialist risks into Lloyd’s, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lesley Kruger as its new Director of Business Development.

Kruger brings to MNK Re a 26-year track record of success within African markets, having recently been Chief Operating Officer of a South African-based risk management company.

She will lead on developing opportunities for MNK Re in South Africa, one of the world’s fastest growing insurance markets. Building on MNK Re’s partnership approach, she will work with local brokers to offer clients specialised premium covers through the broker’s strong relationships with both Lloyds and other top-rated international insurers and reinsurers.

Lesley will have a particular focus on MNK Re’s range of solutions in classes of businesses which are experiencing rapid growth, such as cyber, energy, marine, aviation and agriculture.

FCA

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed Stephen Braviner Roman as General Counsel and as a member of its Executive Committee following an open competition. Stephen is expected to join the FCA in February next year.

Megan Butler has announced she will step down from her role as Executive Director of Transformation in the spring. Megan joined the FCA from the Bank of England in 2016 as Executive Director of Supervision – Investment, Wholesale and Specialist. Emily Shepperd will lead the FCA’s transformation programme, alongside her role as Executive Director of Authorisations, where since March she has spearheaded changes to our approach to the gateway and has been leading a number of transformation workstreams.

Stephen will join the FCA from the Government Legal Department (GLD), where he is Director General of Litigation, Justice and Security. In this role he oversees legal advice given to the Home Office, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice and Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

GREATER THAN

Greater Than (GREAT.ST), the AI data analytics company for mobility, fleet and insurance industries, has appointed top talent Shinya Nakagawa as Global Director for Automotive & Mobility. Shinya Nakagawa will lead, leverage, and accelerate international growth opportunities, operating from Greater Than KK in Tokyo.

Shinya comes most recently from the business innovation area of ​​the world-leading vehicle supplier DENSO Corp and has extensive experience in the global vehicle and new mobility area. At Greater Than, Shinya will play an essential role in revolutionizing risk and price predictions businesses driving mobility and automotive towards fairer, safer, and more profitable offerings and results with sustainability in focus.

UK GENERAL

UK General Insurance (UKG) has hired James Starling to head up a new public sector division within UKG’s underwriting team.

Starling, who joined the Leeds-based MGA at the end of November, will report to CEO Tim Smyth and be responsible for growing UKG’s market presence in the social housing segment.

Tim Smyth said: “Jim Starling is a highly experienced underwriter in the public sector space, and appointing someone of his calibre underlines our intention to grow a profitable book of business in a market that we have identified as being strategically important for us.”

Starling, who will head up a three-strong underwriting team that also includes recent hires Ian Choplas and Natalie Newell, said he was looking forward to building a market leading product and service proposition for UKG in the social housing sector.

ARDONAGH

The Ardonagh Group, a leading global insurance brokerage and service provider, is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Higginson as Chairman of Ardonagh Retail, its online consumer business which caters for 3 million customers in the UK and Ireland. Andy’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval. Ardonagh Retail trades under a number of leading brands including Swinton, Carole Nash and Autonet. It employs 2,400 colleagues at 11 sites and places c.£1 billion of premium income.

Andy was Chairman of Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc from January 2015 until October 2021. He worked with the executive team and Board on a turnaround of the business, culminating in its recent £7 billion sale to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Prior to Wm Morrison, Andy was Chairman of Poundland up to and including its 2014 stock market floatation.

He is currently Senior Independent Director at Flutter plc, Chairman of Evergreen Garden Care (UK) Limited and YourParkingSpace, and a Non-Executive Director of Majid Al Futtaim Retail (Dubai). Andy’s retail career includes 15 years as an Executive Director of Tesco, with four as CEO of its Retail Services Division including Tesco.com, Tesco Bank and customer data science division Dunnhumby.

As Ardonagh Retail Chairman, Andy will work with Ardonagh Retail CEO Ian Donaldson*, Atlanta CEO Emma Rawlinson* and Chief Commercial Officer Craig Ball to support the growth of UK personal lines broker Atlanta and other strategic opportunities.

E2E

e2e Total Loss Vehicle Management [e2e], the UK’s largest salvage and automotive recycling network, has appointed a new leader following Neil Joslin’s decision to step down after over four successful years with the business. Jim Loughran joins the senior management team bringing with him 30 years’ experience and a strong track record in effecting business transformation and servicing customers within technology led organisations.

MAXIS GLOBAL BENEFITS

MAXIS Global Benefits Network (MAXIS GBN), the international employee benefits joint venture between MetLife and AXA, has announced that Paul Lewis will become its global Head of Business Development. Paul replaces Ricardo Almeida who has joined Mercer Marsh Benefits to lead its Latin America and Caribbean employee benefits business. In his new role, Paul will oversee MAXIS GBN’s four Business Development regions. He will report to Mattieu Rouot, CEO of MAXIS GBN, and will sit on the company’s Executive Committee.

Paul will lead a Business Development function that has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years. MAXIS GBN has achieved double digit growth year-on-year in terms of premium volume over the last five years and now has a portfolio of well over €1 billion. The firm is a leader in the employee benefits captive space, working with around 50% of multinationals in this growing market.

GUERNSEY FINANCE

Guernsey Finance is pleased to confirm the resumption of a permanent presence in London with the appointment of Jo Kitcat as UK Representative. Jo’s role will be to promote awareness of Guernsey’s finance offering, educate about the island’s financial services, and connect London professionals with Guernsey practitioners.

He will be responsible for expanding Guernsey’s range of activities in the City of London, and ultimately throughout the UK, identifying opportunities for Guernsey financial services businesses. He will focus on marketing Guernsey as a jurisdiction for investment funds, private wealth, insurance and more at WE ARE GUERNSEY and third-party events and face-to-face meetings.

Jo has more than 20 years of experience in financial services, primarily in business development roles. He has been responsible for building business relationships in various regions including the UK, Switzerland, USA and Asia, and also for developing business with global financial Institutions, particularly from an asset management perspective. He was most recently a Managing Director at BNY Mellon in London.
