NEW DAWN RISK

New Dawn Risk Group Limited, the specialty liability and cyber Lloyd’s broker, announces the appointments of Sarah Khan (pictured on the right) as Head of Professional Risks and Francesca Vernon (left) as Head of the newly formed Healthcare and Life Sciences team.

Sarah Khan has 13 years of international experience in the insurance industry gained as a broker, underwriter and in business development. She joins New Dawn Risk from Aon, where she was a Broking Director.  Prior to that she was a Senior Professional Liability Underwriter at AXA in the US. Francesca Vernon also has more than a decade of insurance experience in the healthcare and life sciences. She was most recently Head of London Market Broking at Lothbury, where she established an international specialty lines offering. She has also previously held senior broking roles at Aon and Arthur J Gallagher & Co.

PIE INSURANCE

Pie Insurance has announced that Wes Thompson, an experienced insurance and financial services professional, has joined Pie’s Board of Directors. Mr. Thompson will advise and support the company as it builds on its exceptional growth to-date.

Mr. Thompson brings more than 30 years of experience to Pie’s board, including a unique blend of startup founder experience along with serving in senior leadership roles at insurance and financial organizations such as Sun Life Financial U.S. and Lincoln Financial Group. Most recently, Mr. Thompson served as the president and CEO of M Financial Group, a leader in life insurance and financial services for high-net-worth clients, where he oversaw all strategic and operational aspects, including the development of resources and services designed to enhance member firm success and drive overall growth.

In 2015, prior to his role at M Financial Group, Mr. Thompson founded Emerge, an insurtech company that makes insurance for medical emergencies accessible, easy to understand, and easy to buy. At Emerge, Mr. Thompson recognized the importance of building a platform focused on the client experience and easy to access insurance.

LIBERTY SPECIALTY

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, announces changes to its London Specialty Business. Paul Beattie has been appointed Global Head of War and Terrorism. Beattie is based in London and takes up the role with immediate effect.

Beattie takes up this new responsibility in addition to his existing role, Head of Underwriting – Marine Niche Products. He will be responsible for growing the book of business by differentiating LSM’s offering for the benefit of its brokers and clients. He will continue to report to Mike Burle who held the role previously. Burle was recently appointed Deputy Active Underwriter in addition to his role of Head of Marine Division.

Commenting on Beattie’s appointment Mike Burle, said: “LSM is a long-standing insurer of Marine business with a global portfolio of risks across a broad section of the industry. Paul has been instrumental in building the war and terrorism portfolio into one of the most valuable in the global marketplace. His knowledge, experience and profile in the market are ideal to lead our global proposition going forward.”

Beattie joined LSM in October 2012 as Underwriting Manager. He has over twenty years of experience underwriting War and Terrorism risks.

MPHASIS

Mphasis (BSE: 526299; NSE: MPHASIS), an information technology (IT) solutions provider specializing in cloud and cognitive services, has announced the appointment of Dave Cassie as the new country head for Canada. Dave will partner with leadership team to drive growth and expand Mphasis’ footprint in the Canadian market.

Dave has a long history in consulting, technology solutions, outsourcing and large transformation programs in multiple industries across North America. He has led major transformation programs for leading banks, insurance companies, investment managers and wealth managers in the US and Canada. Beyond financial services, he has also worked in a range of industries including transportation, high tech, automotive and consumer products.

Dave is also not new to Mphasis, in his previous roles Dave has partnered with Mphasis for multiple large-scale customer programs. Having experienced Mphasis’ High Tech, High Touch, High Trust value proposition, he sees great opportunity to increase Mphasis’ presence in the country. Together with our investments in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta; marquee customers we are already engaged with in Financial Services, Insurance and Logistics; nearshore development center in Calgary, we have both the scale and the specialization needed to be successful in Canada.

AUTO WINDSCREENS

Shaun Atton has been appointed as the newest member of Auto Windscreens’ Senior Management Team, in the position of Business Support Director. Shaun began his career at the company in 2003 as a trainee base technician and has held various positions in the business, both operational within the network and manager roles at head office, most recently as Head of Fleet and Facilities.

Shaun will continue to look after the vehicle fleet, sites and facilities, which include the 70 Service Centres around the UK. His role will include Health and Safety, Quality and Environment and will have a strong focus on minimising Auto Windscreens’ environmental impact, following his work to support the business becoming the first carbon neutral automotive glazing company in 2017. He has also supported the company in its plans to adopt hybrid or fully electric vehicles, which now make up around half the company car fleet.

ZEGO

Commercial motor insurer Zego has appointed ex-Bupa exec, Catherine Barton, as its first Chief Insurance Officer, as the company looks to strengthen its senior team and gear up for further growth in 2022.

Catherine, who brings more than two decades’ worth of experience working at some of the world’s most prestigious companies, will be responsible for building Zego’s relationships with insurer and reinsurer partners, as well as helping the company expand and shore up its product offering in 2022.

Catherine joins Zego from the underwriter Talbot, where she was Chief Financial Officer. Prior to this, Catherine spent over three years at Bupa UK, joining as Commercial & Finance Director before being promoted to General Manager of Bupa Dental Care. She was also a Partner at both Deloitte and EY, spending a combined 20 years working in the companies’ actuarial practises.

HDI GLOBAL

HDI Global SE has appointed Meike Röllecke as the new Head of Cyber & Financial Lines. In this role, she will manage the global underwriting business of the industrial insurer with cyber insurance policies for industrial and corporate clients.

Meike Röllecke has up to now been Head of “Cyber Local Risk” at HDI Global. Previously, she held various posts in the company. She was Board Assistant in the Finance & Risk Management division and did a stint in the “Group Risk Management” department of the Talanx Group, which HDI Global SE is part of. The 30-year-old also holds an MBA in insurance from the Institute of Insurance Science at Leipzig University.

In her new function, Meike Röllecke will report to Dr Mukadder Erdönmez, who as Member of the Management Board of HDI Global SE is responsible for liability and cyber insurance and for motor fleet insurance.

Most recently Catherine was also Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair at Sabre Insurance Company, a UK motor insurer.

TOWERGATE

Leading independent insurance brokers Towergate Insurance Brokers has expanded its Welsh team by appointing a new head of legal indemnities. Dafydd Jonathan will lead Towergate’s legal indemnities department from Cardiff, working with solicitors, surveyors and property developers across the UK providing them with insurance solutions for a range of risks surrounding the “dark arts” of property insurance: legal indemnities.

Dafydd brings a wealth of experience with him, having studied law at undergraduate and master’s level, and completing the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. He has experience from working in the legal profession for a number of years, before then moving into the insurance world.

Discussing his new role, Dafydd said: “Towergate Insurance Brokers is one of the UK’s most prominent independent insurance brokers and risk management advisors in Wales. Joining the team gives me a great opportunity to continue to grow my existing client base whilst aiding my personal development.

“Predicting behaviours in the property market is never an easy thing, especially as the property market has changed significantly during the pandemic. Solicitors and their clients will need the best advice possible when dealing with legal indemnities, and I’m looking forward to providing that alongside the Towergate team.”
