ACRISURE RE
Acrisure Re, the (re)insurance division of top-10 global insurance broker and fintech platform Acrisure, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chuck Furlong as senior vice president and broker, effective immediately.
In his new role, Furlong will focus on expanding Acrisure Re’s reinsurance capabilities in its North American property & casualty classes of business. He will also work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality solutions and service is provided to all its reinsurance clients.
Furlong has more than 25 years of industry experience and has held various management level roles. He joins Acrisure Re from Guy Carpenter, where he was most recently head of U.S. casualty facultative reinsurance. Prior to this, he was an executive vice president at JLT Re for 13 years until the company was acquired by Guy Carpenter in 2018. Furlong also spent five years as executive vice president at Willis Re, working mainly with complex casualty and professional liability treaty placements.
MARKEL
Markel UK, a leading insurance, tax and legal services provider, has continued to invest and grow its underwriting team by appointing Vicky Read as their new head of liability underwriting, in a move that supports the delivery of its ambitious five-year growth strategy.
Read joins after 14 years at AIG where she held a number of senior liability roles, most recently head of SME package & combined for AIG UK. Prior to AIG, she was a senior casualty underwriter at Zurich.
Markel UK’s strength in the liability markets is continuing to be felt across the industry, with Read joining one of the most knowledgeable underwriting teams in the sector. This is the first of several significant underwriting appointments planned as Markel continues to invest in its team’s capability following the appointment of new director of underwriting, Mark Plews, in March of this year.
“I’m excited to join Markel’s team of successful and talented individuals and look forward to contributing to the business’s strong growth strategy,” said Read.

AVANTIA
Avantia, the high-growth virtual insurer behind the Homeprotect brand, has expanded its team with the appointment of a CFO and a Customer Services Director.
Tim Clancy joins as CFO and will be responsible for developing a number of strategic plans across the organisation. He joins from Appreciate Group, where he held the role of CFO.
Jess Woodhouse joins as Customer Services Director, overseeing Homeprotect’s customer operations and will bring additional focus as the organisation continues to execute its customer strategy. Jess joins from Openreach where she led the Service Delivery Transformation function.

GENERAL INSURANCE FRAUD COMMITTEE
The General Insurance Fraud Committee (GIFC) has appointed David Phillips as its new Chair to lead the industry’s counter-fraud strategy. David is the Claims Validation Technical Manager at NFU Mutual and is responsible for guiding NFU Mutual’s claims fraud standards and raising awareness of insurance fraud. David takes the reigns from the previous Chair, Clare Lunn, who was appointed during her time at LV= General Insurance as Director of Financial Crime and is now Head of Counter Fraud at Markerstudy.
The GIFC is the UK’s largest group of insurers and strategic partners working together to tackle insurance fraud by sharing intelligence and best practice in order to solve complex fraud challenges.
Through his previous role as Chair of the Insurance Fraud Investigators Group, David was involved in shaping a joined-up approach to counter-fraud and very much sees the role of GIFC Chair as being another vital avenue through which to influence change.
RIVERSTONE
RiverStone International, the industry-leading acquirer and reinsurer of legacy and discontinued insurance business, announces that Mike Cain has joined the company effective 25 July 2022 as group head of legal and company secretary.
Cain is a senior lawyer with 25 years’ experience operating in the international insurance and reinsurance sector. In his former role at Aspen, Mike held the position of general counsel and company secretary alongside various other leadership roles including CEO of their Bermuda platform.
In 2007 he became the COO of Benfield Advisory which was responsible for the provision of advisory and M&A advice to the group. Over his time at Benfield, he was at the forefront of a range of acquisitions and disposals and led any subsequent integration projects. He was also the point person for issues around regulatory advice. In 2008 Michael moved to Aspen as group general counsel, during his time there he has held a number of leadership roles, always as addendums to his Group GC role, including Group COO, Group HR director and, from 2015 to 2017 the CEO of the Bermuda platform.

European boutique Managing General Agent (MGA), Alta Signa Europe B.V. (“Alta Signa”), is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeroen Kisters as Professional Indemnity Manager for the Netherlands.
Based in Rotterdam, Jeroen will be responsible for developing Alta Signa’s professional indemnity (PI) product offering in the Dutch market as part of the business’s wider focus on carefully targeted, sustainable and profitable growth within specialty markets across Europe.
Jeroen has more than 30 years’ experience as an Insurance Consultant, Wholesale Broker, Legal Risk Management Consultant and Underwriter in respect of Commercial Lines, General Liability, Employer’s Liability, Product Liability, Professional Indemnity (Facultative Reinsurance) and Directors & Officers Liability. Prior to joining Alta Signa, he was a self-employed PI Legal Risk Management Consultant and subject matter expert having previously held senior underwriting roles at Liberty Specialty Markets, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty and AXA. Jeroen is a fluent Dutch, English and German speaker.
