Job Moves and Senior Hires 19.12.2022

Just time for one last Job Moves round-up before the Christmas break, so here goes;

WILLIS TOWERS WATSON

WTW (Willis Towers Watson, NASDAQ: WTW), a leading global advisory, broking, and solutions company, has announced the appointment of Florence Tondu-Mélique to the roles of Head of France and Head of Corporate Risk & Broking (CRB) for France.

She will start her new roles on 1 July, 2023 and will be responsible for accelerating the strategic growth and momentum of WTW’s overall business in France. She will also deliver the company’s ambitious investment plan for France, which is one of WTW’s most important markets. Tondu-Mélique will be part of the European Leadership Team and CRB Europe Leadership Team. She will report to Anne Pullum, Head of Europe, and Head of CRB for Europe, WTW.

She is joining from Zurich Insurance France, where she has been Chief Executive since 2017. Previously she was with Hiscox for four years as COO of Europe, and before that held leadership positions at AXA. She began her career at McKinsey & Company within the Financial Services practice.

QBE

QBE has appointed Rob Stone as Chief Financial Officer for its International Division.

Rob has been with QBE for over 14 years, most recently managing Equator Re, QBE’s inward reinsurance facility, before stepping in to run International’s Finance, Actuarial and Legal function on an interim basis following Chris Killourhy’s move to QBE Re.

Jason Harris, Chief Executive Officer of QBE International, said: “We’re delighted that Rob is making the move permanently to CFO for our International Division. His experience overseeing Equator Re as well as overseeing Finance, Actuarial and Legal for International will be of great value to this role and helping to deliver our strategic goals. This appointment is yet another testament to the great pipeline of talent we have within our business, having filled several senior leadership positions internally this year.”

Equator Re will be looking to appoint a Managing Director in the new year and is currently led by Victoria Smith on an interim basis.

THOMAS MILLER

Thomas Miller, the international market leading insurance services provider, has announced it has strengthened its senior management team with the promotion of Fiona Cowie to Group Chief Operating Officer and Vanessa Luty to Group HR Director.

Fiona Cowie joined Thomas Miller in 2016 and was appointed Chief of Staff in 2021. Fiona has three decades of HR experience in the financial and professional services space, after an early career as an Army Officer. Fiona has worked for PwC, Pinsent Curtis and Pitney Bowes amongst others. In her new position, Fiona’s focus will be on the delivery of key corporate initiatives across the Group.

Vanessa Luty joined Thomas Miller as Senior HR Business Partner in 2018 and was promoted to Head of HR in May 2021. Before joining Thomas Miller, Vanessa worked for Bird & Bird LLP and Olswang. In her new role, Vanessa will take over full leadership of the Group HR function from Fiona Cowie.

FIDELIS

Fidelis Insurance (“Fidelis”) is pleased to announce three senior promotions, effective immediately.

Charles Mathias – Deputy Chairman

Charles Mathias has been promoted to Deputy Chairman. He was most recently Director of Underwriting having started at the Company in the role of Chief Risk Officer and has nearly four decades of broking and underwriting experience. He is also an Executive Director of the Fidelis Group.  He joined Fidelis in 2015 from Lancashire where he was latterly Chief Risk Officer. Prior to 2005 he held a number of roles with brokers and MGAs in London, the USA and Mexico.

Matthew Bellamy – Director of Underwriting

Matthew Bellamy has been promoted to Director of Underwriting, replacing Mr. Mathias. Prior to this, he was Head of FUL Property Reinsurance at Fidelis. He has more than 15 years of underwriting experience and prior to joining Fidelis in 2019 was Head of Property Treaty and Deputy Active Underwriter at Lloyd’s Acapella Syndicate.

Michael Davern – Member of Executive Committee

Michael Davern has been appointed as a member of the Executive Committee. Michael has grown the portfolio to be a lead market in the D&F property sector. He has over 20 years’ experience in the industry holding various roles within underwriting and actuarial. He joined Fidelis from AXA XL where he spent more than 10 years, most recently as an Underwriting Manager writing open market and delegated authority business.

CHUBB 

Chubb Limited (NYSE: CB) has announced that Margaret Peloso has been appointed Senior Vice President, Chubb Group, Global Climate Officer and Executive Director of the Chubb Charitable Foundation. Peloso comes to Chubb from Vinson & Elkins, where she served as the law firm’s Lead Sustainability Partner with responsibility for integrating sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors across its portfolio.

In the newly created role of Global Climate Officer, effective Jan. 16, 2023, Peloso will have responsibility for Chubb’s climate-related strategies, including business and public policy initiatives, as Chubb continues to innovate and lead in implementing realistic, science-based responses to climate change.

SWISS RE

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has appointed Allen Kwan as Head of Customer & Distribution Management of North America, effective January 1, 2023.

In this expanded role, he will oversee the customer and broker distribution strategy for the United States and Canada ensuring an increased focus on the delivery of our value proposition for the respective segments. Based in New York, Kwan will continue to report to Katie McGrath, CEO North America, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Kwan joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2012 and has demonstrated strong leadership over the past decade. He has served as Head Customer Management North America since August 2020 and was named as the interim head of Distribution Management in November 2021. CANOPIUS

Canopius Group, a leading global specialty (re)insurer, announces the appointment of James Pearson as UK Chief Financial Officer, Canopius Managing Agency, subject to regulatory approval. He will report to Canopius Group Chief Financial Officer Gavin Phillips and interim Canopius UK CEO Kate Roy.

Pearson joins from Direct Line where, as Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, he successfully led the group’s finance transformation project and the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 17. He brings almost 20 years of insurance and financial services experience to Canopius having originally trained and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in London and Sydney. Pearson will assume the role from Gavin Phillips, who had acted as interim UK CFO and will now revert to his group responsibilities.

RIPE THINKING

UK insurtech, Ripe Thinking, announces two key senior appointments as the fast-growing company surpasses 300,000 customers.
Joining Ripe’s senior team is Rob Styring as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Simon Trott as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Both bring enviable track records of success in the insurance
sector. Styring joins from Kingsbridge Group, where he was CFO, having formerly been a finance director in PIB Group, Thistle Insurance and Towergate. Trott was COO of legal specialists NAHL Group plc and previously held senior roles at RKH Group and Towergate.
The two are no strangers, having worked together leading Towergate Direct, the Specialist Retail Division. With Trott as CEO and Styring as Finance Director, Towergate Direct grew to over 500,000 customers and achieved over £250m Gross Written Premium.
