Nissan Hyper Urban: An EV You Can Park Inside Your Apartment?

In anticipation of the first Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today digitally revealed the Nissan Hyper Urban, the first of a series of advanced EV concept vehicles that will be showcased there.

You have to hand it to Nissan, they have designed an electric SUV that looks sharp from every angle, unlike the rather stumpy, rounded-off wedge shaped Teslas. The Hyper Urban concept has scissor type doors front and rear, groovy wheels and a quick change screen dashboard, so you can slot in an upgraded one 5 years down the line.

Can we just state for the record that 10 inch wide touchscreen command centres inside cars are a bigger distraction than mobile phone use at the wheel? Changing the aircon or heater settings can require three separate options in a typical menu, which could mean 5-10 seconds glance away from the road ahead. Obviously dangerous, equal to checking a phone text some might say. Why is this being allowed by regulators?

The Hyper Urban is one of a range of EVs being showcased at the Japan Mobility Show this month by the way. Expect similar concepts from Toyota, Honda and Mistubishi.

CARS THAT BECOME A NATIONAL GRID

Maybe EVs can only really work if they become part of the National Grid. So when demand is high you have to accept the electricity you bought yesterday is taken back by the Grid? It’s a possibility that Nissan have baked into their Hyper Urban concept car, here’s the word;

“The Nissan Hyper Urban would also be fully interwoven into the EV ecosystem, with its impressive V2H (vehicle-to-home) function providing power to the home, resulting in significant energy cost savings and reducing strain on the power grid. Thanks to its V2G (vehicle-to-grid) capability, owners can even contribute surplus power to the grid to support their local community and earn money in the process. The Intelligent Charging Management System features AI that can autonomously charge vehicles and power buildings, providing efficient management of power.”

Of course the downside is you can’t actually get to work at the NHS because the National Grid pinched your power, so several operations had to be cancelled. Oh well.

NO NISSAN! DON’T TELL PEOPLE THEY CAN PARK A BATTERY CAR INSIDE AN APARTMENT

This insane idea from Nissan ignores the hundreds of battery fires involving e-scooters, bikes and cars over the last decade. Very poor thinking, dangerous to life. Here’s an extract from the press release;

“The interior is designed to blend in with urban living spaces. Inspired by kaleidoscopic triangles, the instrument panel and display can be customized according to the owner’s mood. In addition, the front seats can collapse and fold into the back seats, creating a sofa-like, private relaxing space. When away from the daily grind, the Nissan Hyper Urban can seamlessly integrate relaxation and utility: Park it inside a loft apartment or bungalow so that it becomes an interior space to unwind.”

Why on earth would you sleep in your car when you already rented or owned an apartment anyway?
