It’s time once more for a round up of the latest job moves and senior appointments.

LOCKTON

Lockton, the world’s largest independent insurance broker, has today announced the appointment of Gordon D’Arcy – former professional rugby player for Leinster, Ireland and British and Irish Lions – as Business Development Executive within its Transactional Risks division. Based in Dublin, Ireland, he takes up his new role with immediate effect.

In this newly created role, Gordon will be responsible for deal origination, with a particular focus on supporting M&A transactions throughout the UK and Ireland. In addition to joining the Transactional Risks division, where he will work closely with both London and Dublin-based teams, Gordon will support the People Solutions and General Insurance teams at Lockton Ireland.

SOMO

Specialist lending firm Somo Bridging has appointed Andrew Marsland as its new Relationship Director – Wales.

A seasoned lending professional, Andrew has over 22 years’ experience in the financial services industry covering mortgages, underwriting, business development and sales. Splitting his time between office-based work in Manchester and meeting with broker clients in Wales, Andrew will use his expertise to advise on and sell its bridge lending portfolio, including its market leading Valuation Only and Second Charge products.

Commenting on his appointment, Andrew said: “Joining such an innovative business in a fast-growing industry is really exciting. It’s a totally different way of working for me.  We get the freedom to find ways to offer deals that don’t fit the standard lending criteria. This means we can look at each individual situation, talk through the options with brokers and if it’s safe and viable, make an offer.

QBE

QBE Europe has appointed Erik Keller as Head of Liability effective 1 January 2024. Erik has 30 years’ experience in commercial insurance, with most of his career spent in multinational business. He has been in the role of regional underwriting manager for QBE Germany since 2017.

Before joining QBE as liability portfolio manager in 2011, Erik held various underwriting and trading roles at Chubb, RSA, and construction insurance specialist VHV, building his experience in casualty underwriting and portfolio development. At QBE Germany, his main client focus has been on large corporate and global business. In recent years, he took part in European projects including QBE’s casualty rulebook, multinational offering, and corporate and specialty practice development.

GFT

Global digital transformation company GFT has appointed Priya Lakshmi as its new Chief Revenue Officer in the UK. With an impressive track record of driving revenue growth in the technology and consulting industry across financial services customers, Priya is set to lead the company’s expansion and strategic initiatives in the UK.

Joining from Amazon Web Services (AWS) where she held the role of Senior Manager for World-Wide Professional Services, Priya was responsible for the team that led large transformation deals across all geographies and industries.

Commenting on her new role, Priya said: “The pace of digital transformation across the banking, asset management and insurance industries over the past decade has been hugely impressive. I’m looking forward to helping our clients embark on this journey with confidence by leveraging our deep expertise and strong collaboration across our partnerships.”

INSLY

Insly, the low-code software provider to the insurance industry, has appointed Andrea Boetti as Chief Sales Officer. Boetti brings 15 years of fintech experience to Insly, most recently as Director of Strategic Partnerships at Boku, the world’s largest mobile payments network, following its acquisition of Fortumo in 2022, where he previously held the position of VP of Business Development and Sales.Boetti will be responsible for expanding and enhancing Insly’s sales capabilities, including identifying and developing new revenue streams and strategies for increasing the company’s total addressable market. To do this, he will draw on his previous experience at Boku and Fortumo where he helped to diversify the company’s client base, moving beyond traditional segments, and attracting some of the biggest brands in the world.“Insurance is a segment that is part of everyone’s life, and it is currently going through a hugely transformative period,” comments Boetti. “Traditional insurance was a very analog industry but now digitisation is happening rapidly, and there are significant opportunities. SOMPO INTERNATIONAL

Sompo International, a leading global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty (re)insurance, has announced the appointments of Anna Lisiak as Head of Claims, Insurance, Continental Europe and Herndon Stokes as Head of Distribution & Client Relationship Management, Insurance, Continental Europe. Both will be based in Zurich and report into Ralph Brand, President, Continental Europe Insurance. Mr. Stokes has a secondary reporting line into Brendan Plessis, Head of Distribution, Business Development and Client Management, Insurance, Global Markets.

Mr. Brand said, “Anna and Herndon are the latest senior hires to Sompo International’s Continental European Insurance leadership team. Ms. Lisiak joins from Generali GCC in Milan, Italy where she most recently was Head of Specialty Claims. Prior to that, she held claims roles with Allianz in Munich, Germany and Warta in Gdynia, Poland.

Mr. Stokes joins from AXIS Re in Zurich, Switzerland where he most recently was Broker Executive, Head of Distribution. Previously, he held client management and corporate development roles with Munich Re.

PIB

Pro MGA Global Solutions (Pro MGA), the independent managing general agent (MGA) incubation division of global re/insurance trusted guidance provider, Pro Global Holdings Limited (Pro), is pleased to announce today the appointment of David Goodley as its new Head of Compliance.David brings a wealth of experience to the role, having established his own compliance company, City Compliance, in 2012 which provides regulatory compliance services across the insurance industry, including in particular brokers and MGAs. US Audit & Advisory

Pro Global (“Pro”) also announces the appointment of Robert Sherman as its new US Head of Audit and Advisory.

In a career spanning 20 years, Robert is a highly experienced insurance professional with strong product knowledge, extensive experience of managing client accounts, and optimising diverse operational and compliance programmes for large companies. He also holds designations in Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance Management, and Market Conduct Management.

Robert has joined Pro from Pie Insurance where he was Director, Operational Excellence, Premium Audit & Billing Operations and before that, Manager, Premium Audit. He had previously held senior Audit, Compliance and Product Management roles with W. R. Berkley, State Farm Insurance and MetLife having started his career with First Financial Asset Management.

Based in the US, Robert will lead Pro’s US Audit strategy and business development with a focus on insurance audit and advisory services.

AND-E

Reinforcing its commitment to be at the forefront of mobility protection, AND-E, a leading provider of mobility insurance, has appointed Adrian Steele to the position of Group Chief Reinsurance Officer for its operations in the UK and across Europe.  He will report to Michael Kainzbauer, Group CEO at AND-E. Steele moves up into Group Chief Reinsurance Officer from Head of Insurance Solutions for Toyota Insurance Services, a role he had held alongside Head of KINTO Protect, the mobility brand for Toyota.

A highly experienced insurance professional, Steele has a forensic knowledge of the motor insurance claims landscape from close to four decades working in the sector.

Vitally importantly for AND-E, Steele also has a clear eye on the future of mobility and proven expertise in achieving reinsurance support for completely new advances in mobility insurance and autonomous driving. He played a critical role in AND-E providing the insurance solution for Oxa, when the company completed the first zero occupancy on-road autonomous vehicle journey in the UK. The insurance was tailored specifically for the risks associated with L4 autonomy on open roads.

ALLIANZ COMMERCIAL

Allianz Commercial has appointed Elke Vagenende as Commercial Managing Director for its ‘Benelux and Nordics’ region. She will re-join Allianz from her current role at AIG during Q1 2024 to lead this newly established region, and will represent Allianz’s full set of Property and Casualty insurance solutions for mid-sized companies, large corporations, and specialty clients in the market. This Benelux & Nordics region will service customers across Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway.

In her new role as Commercial Managing Director Benelux & Nordics, Elke Vagenende will report to Dirk Vogler, Board Member of AGCS SE and Allianz Commercial Chief Regions & Markets Officer, in conjunction with Joos Louwerier, CEO Allianz Benelux.

INVER RE

Inver Re has appointed Mark Shumway as Head of Advisory.  Mark was previously Head of Advisory at Howden, where he launched Howden Capital Markets. Prior to Howden, Mark was Global Head of Advisory at JLT Re, Managing Director and head of Strategic Advisory for APAC at Guy Carpenter. He has spent over 20 years advising management teams on the launch of new (re)insurance carriers and the expansion of others, bringing fresh capacity to the market.  He has also guided multiple funds in their early investments in (re)insurance risk on a collateralized basis and arranged investment in capacity vehicles. He is an expert in structuring and arranging transactions with alternative capital providers, in insurance credit ratings, solvency regulation, corporate finance, and sector M&A.

LEXISNEXIS

LexisNexis® Risk Solutions, the data, advanced analytics and technology provider, has confirmed two senior appointments within its insurance leadership team for the U.K. and Ireland:

Tom Lawrie-Fussey has been promoted into the role of senior director of product management from the position of automotive director. Tom has worked for the business for a year, spearheading the launch of LexisNexis® Vehicle Insights, a unique vehicle centric data enrichment solution for motor insurance providers. Tom will now be responsible for driving product innovations to support the general insurance market working with the product team. He takes over the position from James Burton who was made managing director of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, insurance, in April 2023.

Aishling Meyler has been promoted into the role of associate vice president of technology from senior director of software engineering.  With a stellar experience of more than 20 years’ in software engineering, Aishling understands the skills needed to deliver technology focused projects at scale for the insurance market. In her new role, Aishling will build next generation AI based cloud applications that will not only enable insurance providers to access innovative products seamlessly but do so with minimal disruption, worldclass security and reliability.

SIGMA 7
