Job Moves and Senior Appointments 05.02.2024

It’s time once again to round up those senior appointments from across the insurance sector;

ROKSTONE

Rokstone, the International Speciality (Re)Insurance MGA, part of the Aventum Group, has appointed Travis Bowles as Head of Claims.  The appointment signals a step change for Rokstone.   As the now $1bn MGA continues its rapid global expansion in the Speciality insurance space, a sophisticated and efficient claims function is vital to meeting the expectations of first division carriers and broker partners, as well as maintaining competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving market.

Travis joins Rokstone from Axis Capital where he spent five years as International Head of Claims. 

Travis started his career as a solicitor with professional services law firm RPC, and has also previously held senior claims roles at Amlin.  He brings with him unrivalled experience in building and managing international claims functions.  Strategic in his approach Travis is highly regarded for his strong decision-making capabilities and ability to spot new opportunities that both add value and improve the end-to-end claims experience.

WTW

WTW, a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company (NASDAQ: WTW) today announces the appointment of Anthony Borgman, who will assume the newly created role of Head of Affinity Great Britain. This new role continues the expansion of WTW’s Global Affinity business, following the recent appointment of Paul Lubbers as US Head of Affinity & Programs.

Based in London and reporting to Eddy Castles, Managing Director for GB Retail, and Chris Gingell, Global Head of Affinity, Borgman will have overall responsibility for driving WTW’s growth in the Affinity and Embedded Insurance sectors in the UK.

Borgman brings 25 years of experience to the role, with a primary focus on Affinity partnerships. Before joining WTW, he served as head of global sales operations and channel partnerships at Collinson Group, where he led the significant growth of new client relationships and programs for its insurance division. Prior to this, he spent five years at Assurant, joining as business development leader before being promoted to head of new business development for Europe, establishing long standing partnerships with major financial institutions and technology brands.

CHUBB

Chubb has named Seth Gillston Executive Vice President, Head of North America Industry Practices. In this role, Gillston will drive and lead overall strategy for Chubb’s industry-focused initiatives, which include coordinated underwriting, risk engineering and claims services targeted to specific industries across various market segments.

Gillston will continue to serve as Private Equity Industry Practice Leader. He will be based in New York City and report to John Lupica, Vice Chairman, Chubb Group and President, North America Insurance.

BMS

BMS, the independent insurance and reinsurance broker, announces the appointment of Rob Neighbour as divisional director, BMS energy, following completion of his contractual obligations. Based in London, he will report to Alex Collier, director of energy at BMS. Neighbour will join from Alesco Risk Management Services, where he rose from partner to head of upstream broking, and most recently executive partner. Before this, Neighbour began his career at Howden Insurance Brokers before joining Thompson Heath and Bond Ltd as a broker.

The appointment marks the first hire in BMS’s energy team since Alex Collier and Josh Saggers joined as directors, and Andrew Vertigan as senior account handler in February of last year.

BMS Re, also announces that Andrew Wheeler and Russ McGuire have been appointed as interim co-CEOs of BMS Re. The appointments follow Pete Chandler stepping down as CEO and transitioning to a strategic, client-focused, role as vice-chair of BMS Re. Chandler will remain a director on the US board.

Having led BMS Re for more than four years, Chandler presided over the remarkable growth of BMS’s reinsurance arm with the group now a force in the global reinsurance broking space with offices across the US, London, Bermuda, Middle East, Latin America, and Asia. BMS Re now employs over 300 professionals providing a full suite of capability including treaty, facultative, capital markets and class leading actuarial and analytical expertise.

PRICE FORBES

Phil Johnson has been appointed as Chief Executive Designate of Asia Pacific at Price Forbes.

Based in Singapore, Phil will broaden Price Forbes’ (re)insurance broking platform, working closely with the wider Ardonagh Specialty teams in London, linking trading throughout the region in partnership with CEO APAC Ardonagh Specialty Alex Gilmore, through London, Bermuda, Singapore and Hong Kong, and will be instrumental in Ardonagh’s expansion throughout Asia. He will move to CEO at the end of September, subject to the relevant regulatory approvals, at which time Stephen Britten, the current CEO, will become Executive Chairman of Price Forbes Asia.

LIBERTY

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced the appointment of James Boyle to the newly created role of Head of Energy, London. Boyle will have a dual reporting line into Melanie O’Neill, CUO, London, and Ronald Bolaños, LSM’s CUO and Global Head of Energy. Boyle’s promotion is effective immediately and he is based in London.

With more than 15 years of London market experience, Boyle is perfectly placed to lead LSM’s globally recognised, market-leading underwriting team. Boyle and his team will continue to work closely with LSM’s in-house risk engineers and claims team to provide agile solutions for clients and brokers.

CFC

 CFC, the specialist insurance provider, pioneer in emerging risk and market leader in cyber, announced today that Jason Hart has joined as Head of Proactive Cyber.

A renowned thought leader in cybersecurity and a member of the Forbes Technology Council for the past five years, Hart brings over two decades of experience in creating and developing information security offerings and services whilst driving change in the world of cybersecurity. In this newly created role, Hart will be responsible for leading the continued development of CFC’s market leading cyber threat analysis, vulnerability and threat detection service which has already protected thousands of CFC customers from suffering potentially harmful cyber events.

QATAR AIRWAYS CARGO

“Qatar Airways Cargo confirms that Mark Drusch has been appointed as Chief Officer Cargo effective immediately.

With over 25 years in senior airline management roles, Mark is a well-known figure in the aviation world. His most recent role was SVP Revenue Management, Alliances and Strategy at Qatar Airways where he led the development and implementation of the company’s revenue strategy as well as managing strategic alliances with key partner airlines.

Prior to joining Qatar Airways, Mark spent 20 years at Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines and Lufthansa LSG Sky Chefs as Senior Vice President where he led the transformation in commercial airline strategy execution, revenue management, network planning and alliances. In addition, Mark was CEO and co-founder of e-Rewards and e-Miles, leaders in online panel research and online advertising.”

HOWDEN

Howden, the international insurance group, has welcomed two new appointments, Dean Barker and Ross Power, to its South and West Wales region. Dean Barker joins the firm as Account Executive and will be responsible for delivering insurance solutions to businesses operating across the commercial sector.

Dean joins with almost 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, previously working for regional and national brokers such as Jelf and Towergate. Dean specialises in supporting clients in the construction, manufacturing and retail industries.

Howden has also welcomed Ross Power to its South and West Wales region as Commercial Account Handler.

Ross, from Swansea, is responsible for assisting the company’s Account Executives in building new business and attracting new clients, as well as working closely with clients on their day-to-day needs.

Ross will draw upon his extensive experience within the insurance industry in South Wales specifically, having worked for a number of brokers in the area, most recently for Douglas Insurance.

COALITION

 Coalition, the world’s first Active Insurance provider designed to prevent digital risk before it strikes, today announced it has appointed Laura Stewart as its first UK claims leader. Stewart joins Coalition as Claims Counsel after a career in the legal and cyber sectors. Her experience includes roles at DAC Beachcroft, Ernst & Young, and, most recently, the US law firm Morrison Foerster, where she helped clients with data protection and privacy, cyber incidents, negotiation, and security training.
During her career, Laura has supported clients ranging from small UK businesses to large international organisations with various incidents, including ransomware, financial fraud, business email compromise, and insider threats. Laura also has experience dealing with insurance claims and coverage issues.

CANOPIUS

Canopius Group, a leading global specialty (re)insurer, announces the appointments of Angelos Deftereos as Head of Structured Credit and Boris Medimorec and Virad Patel as Underwriters in its Credit & Political Risk team in London. They take up their roles with immediate effect. In addition, Dimitri Plastiras joins the APAC team in February as an Underwriter. He will initially be based in Sydney and will transfer to Singapore later in the year.

Angelos brings over two decades of experience to Canopius. He joins from Volante Global, where he held the position of Managing Director – Structured Finance specialising in significant risk transfer (SRT) insurance, a growth area that he will lead in his new role. Prior to this, Angelos worked as Head of Capital Mitigation and Operational Risk Insurance at AXA XL. He has also held senior roles at Morgan Stanley, Aon, Marsh and Goldman Sachs.

MDS

MDS Group, part of The Ardonagh Group, announces the appointment of Álvaro Mengotti as an executive board member.

Mengotti was most recently Chief International and Reinsurance Officer at March Risk Solutions (part of Banca March Group). He previously led AIG Iberia for 12 years where he worked closely with MDS and the Portuguese market and was also a member of the LATAM ExCo in AIG between 2012 and 2016. His career began at Gil y Carvajal and he was a board member of Reliance National Europe.

He has held several roles within trade associations including as a board member of the Spanish Insurance Employers’ Association UNESPA and as Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain.
