Flood Re Working With BIBA on Highlighting Build Back Better

The latest news from BIBA;

Flood Re has teamed up with the British Insurance Brokers’ Association as part of its plans to develop wider understanding across the broking community about the mechanics and benefits of the Build Back Better Scheme, the important role of Property Flood Resilience both in the home and outside, and to share the flood scheme’s future plans.

Representatives from Flood Re will join BIBA’s executive team as they tour the UK regions to engage with broker members. The tour will visit Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Leeds and Holywood Northern Ireland starting next week in Duxford Cambridgeshire. The Build Back Better scheme (BBB) launched in July 2022, is designed to reduce the cost and impact of future floods by including property resilience measures as part of flood repairs.

BBB offers householders the chance to install Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures up to the value of £10,000 when repairing their properties after a flood. This way the next time the area floods their home will be better prepared to keep as much of the water out as possible. Measures can also be installed so that when water does enter it is easier, quicker and safer for families to clean up and move back in – often in a number of days rather than many months.

Flood Resilience is not just limited to inside the home, but also includes outside space which can play a major role in mitigating the impact of flood – as was demonstrated at the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this year with the Flood Re Flood Resilient Garden. Kelly Ostler-Coyle, head of communications and stakeholder relations, Flood Re, commented:

“We joined BIBA as an insurer partner at the end of last year and are now really looking forward to developing that relationship and talking to brokers face to face in the regions. Our aims is to help ensure wider understanding of the Build Back Better scheme and the role of Property Flood
Resilience amongst the broking community which plays a crucial role when it comes to communication with customers.

“We know that education around PFR is critical for the success of the Build Back Better scheme and that it has a major role to play in helping improve resilience to future flooding. The Regional Tour will also enable us to garner feedback from the broking market that we can build into future education and communication initiatives.”

Graeme Trudgill, CEO, BIBA, added:

“Our annual Tour of the Regions events are an integral part of our engagement with members, and building flood resilience in the UK is a key BIBA Manifesto commitment. We are really pleased that Flood Re will join us and help keep brokers informed about Build Back Better. It’s fantastic that they want to take the time to meet our members face to face and show how Flood Re can help them provide better outcomes for customers in areas at risk of flooding.”
