Predictions 2025: Starpeak Sees AI, Embedded and Value Being Key

Here are some 2025 Predictions from Starpeak for you;

Julian Hucks, CEO

“The insurance industry witnessed multiple transformative trends in 2024, many of which will continue to shape the sector in 2025. For example, the mainstream adoption of AI marked an important turning point, as insurers were quick to explore its capabilities.

While uses have been found for AI to streamline processes, improve decision-making and drive innovation within organisations, insurers are still searching for ways to leverage AI for customer-facing use. Another major development in the industry this year was the emergence of digitised claims notifications. This has made communications and settlements more efficient, while enhancing fraud detection and customer experiences. Additionally, the rollout of the FCA’s Consumer Duty highlighted the importance of consumer protection, driving insurers to focus on management information and to justify the value of the insurance they are delivering to consumers.

“Economic pressures in the UK will undoubtedly continue to test the sector in 2025. The Labour government’s increase of business taxes will strain profitability due to the impact on wage growth and the price of consumer goods. As a knock-on effect, rising insurance premiums – driven by increased costs – will exacerbate the insurance gap. This is because stretched budgets will force many to unwisely cut down on coverage. This trend underscores the importance of addressing affordability and access as insurance companies plan future strategies.

“Additionally, the growing influence of Gen Z on the industry cannot be underestimated. This demographic’s preference for online purchasing and digital interactions is reshaping the sector. As such, insurers must embrace seamless, tech-driven customer journeys to remain competitive. As the industry navigates these intersecting challenges, success will hinge on a balance of technological innovation, customer-centricity, and social responsibility. The most forward-thinking insurers will view this not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to redefine their role – transforming from risk managers to essential partners in their customers’ financial well-being.”

Andy Brownsell, Commercial Director at Starpeak

“In my opinion, there are three key trends that will likely reshape the insurance industry in 2025. Firstly, AI will continue to push boundaries, enhancing operations and enabling personalised customer experiences. Insurers that effectively harness its power will have a competitive advantage. That said, ensuring trust and accuracy in its use remains a key challenge.

“Embedded insurance is also rapidly evolving, making it easier for consumers to purchase coverage directly through non-insurance platforms. This seamless integration boosts accessibility and convenience. Increasing regulatory scrutiny, especially around compliance and ethics, will be key to developing this trend in personal and micro-SME lines next year.

“Finally, closing the protection gap is another huge priority. Recently, there has been a wave of brokers and intermediaries focusing on affordable, flexible products tailored to underserved groups and we will see more entering the market during 2025. These efforts, coupled with enhanced accessibility and education, will help to reduce the number of individuals and businesses left without essential coverage. Success will be achieved by those who act boldly – adopting innovative technologies, rethinking distribution channels, and delivering solutions that truly resonate with customers in a fast-evolving market.”
