DCL Broker Survey Reveals 33% Felt Their Experience Was Poor

There is still work to do in keeping brokers happy when it comes to delivering on flexible cover and the future of commercial insurance, according to a recent survey;

Direct Commercial Limited’s (DCL) latest broker survey reveals significant challenges in broker experience across insurers, insurtechs, and MGAs serving the commercial motor insurance sector.

Only 26% of brokers rated their overall experience across the whole market with providers as good, while 33% described it as poor. A key area for improvement includes flexibility of cover, highlighted by 62% of respondents as priorities.
The survey also found that 61% of brokers feel they should have greater influence in shaping the future of commercial motor insurance, while 11% believe brokers should play a major role in driving new product development.
Nevertheless, while the survey reveals that brokers face challenges in their experience with insurers, insurtechs, and MGAs, DCL is actively working to enhance flexibility, service, and collaboration.

Joe Hantson, Deputy CEO of Direct Commercial, said:

“These findings highlight areas where the industry must step up to better meet brokers’ needs and expectations. At DCL, we are dedicated to acting on broker feedback, focusing on delivering more flexible and efficient solutions. Brokers are essential in shaping meaningful innovation, and we are proud to work alongside them to elevate service standards across the sector.
“DCL has already taken steps to enhance flexibility by refining its Haul In One product, which provides a seamless insurance solution for smaller commercial fleets. The product offers cover for up to five vehicles on a single policy – addressing a key challenge brokers face when seeking cover for their clients.
“Furthermore, DCL is dedicated to ensuring brokers have a stronger voice in shaping the market. By fostering close collaboration between insurers, brokers, and policyholders, DCL continuously reviews evolving risks, claims handling, and cost mitigation strategies. This proactive approach strengthens relationships and delivers better outcomes for all stakeholders.”
DCL remains committed to raising service standards, driving broker-led innovation, and ensuring the commercial motor insurance sector remains responsive, efficient, and forward-thinking.
