Insurtech Zego Hits Profit Milestone

The word from Zego who are making good progress;

Leading insurtech provider Zego has officially achieved profitability marking a significant milestone in its evolution from gig-economy insurance pioneer to challenger in the broader UK motor insurance market.

The company closed the final quarter of 2024 with a combined operating ratio of 90% – a clear indication of the strength and efficiency of its tech-first business model. This achievement comes alongside consistently strong customer satisfaction, with Zego maintaining an impressive 4.5-star rating across its services.

Commenting on the milestone, Sten Saar, CEO and founder of Zego, said: “Achieving profitability validates our strategic approach, underlining the strength of our innovative technologies and the trust we’ve built with customers and partners.”

Alongside its profitability announcement, Zego has launched a new Personal Car Insurance (PCI) product aimed at responsible new motorists – a group often penalised by traditional insurers with higher premiums. The new product uses Zego’s proprietary telematics technology to assess real driving behaviour, offering fair, personalised pricing based on how safely an individual drives, rather than on age, experience, or postcode alone.

Saar said: “With our PCI, we’re addressing a clear gap in the market. By rewarding good driving, especially among new motorists, we’re encouraging safer driving practices and making insurance significantly more accessible.”

The new product includes real-time driving feedback via the Zego app, helping customers improve their driving and potentially reduce their premiums over time. It also features a fast and streamlined claims process designed to improve customer experience and peace of mind.

Originally founded to serve gig economy workers, Zego has since expanded its offering to cover a broader range of personal and commercial drivers. With profitability now secured, the company is forecasting strong financial growth throughout 2025, supported by continued innovation and a clear focus on customer-first insurance solutions.

Saar added: “Profitability is not merely a financial achievement, but positions us firmly for sustainable growth and long-term impact in redefining the motor insurance sector. Here at Zego, we remain committed to making roads safer and insurance fairer, using real-world driving data to empower motorists and improve outcomes across the board.”
