ABI Joins The National Emergencies Trust

The latest from the ABI;

To mark the legacy of the Covid-19 Support Fund, the ABI has become a National Emergencies Trust (the Trust) Appeal Partner, committing to utilise its powerful network of insurers and long-term savings providers to raise awareness and vital funds during UK disasters.

Established in 2019 the Trust offers one trusted place for people and organisations to donate to during national emergencies. Funds are then shared directly with survivors and their loved ones, as well as through grants to local and national charities to support those affected financially, through mental health or bereavement support, and with physical rehabilitation.

During localised disasters that don’t meet its appeal threshold, the Trust provides rapid fundraising and distribution support to local organisations who are responding, such as during the Southport attack in July 2024. Outside of appeals, it collaborates with survivors, policymakers, industry and other charities on projects that will enhance the UK’s resilience.

By joining as an Appeal Partner, the ABI will share fundraising details with its network of members and wider industry contacts to help raise awareness amongst those keen to support in times of local and national crisis.

Yvonne Braun, ABI Executive Lead, Covid-19 Support Fund and Director of Policy, Long-Term Savings and Health and Protection, said: “Insurers and long-term savings providers play a crucial role in the financial response to national crises. They see the impact these events have on people’s lives and are committed to helping communities recover and rebuild.

“By partnering with the National Emergencies Trust, we’re proud to build on the legacy of our Covid-19 Support Fund – demonstrating the power of our industry when it comes together to support those in need. I’m grateful to our members for their contributions, and to the charities doing extraordinary work on the ground.”

Mhairi Sharp, CEO of National Emergencies Trust, said: “When the private and charity sectors join forces, incredible things can happen – and we’ve already seen that in action with the impact of the Covid-19 Support Fund. Our Appeal Partners Programme is all about making that collaboration easier and faster in times of crisis, so we’re thrilled to welcome the ABI as our latest member. Their influence and connections will be a powerful force for good, when people across the UK need it most.”
