According to Reuters and other media sites, Allianz Life has seen some customer data stolen in a recent hack, and potential ransom event. More details here.
Insurance brands are all part of a bigger chain of companies, utilising platforms, Cloud services, data storage etc and all those links in the chain offer points of vulnerability. Life and Health insurers in particular face a huge challenge in protecting personal health data long term, so new protocols and security methods need to evolve alongside AI claims settlements, or pricing of risk.

Commenting on this, Boris Cipot, senior security engineer at Black Duck, said,
“New insights based on information from the platform Have I Been Pwned suggest that the breach of Allianz Life customers includes leaked names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, dates of birth, social security numbers, and tax numbers. This information in the hands of skilled attackers can be dangerous for the affected customers due to phishing attacks, social engineering, and identity theft.
“Victims should watch out for any suspicious activity on their accounts and services. Allianz offered a two-year identity monitoring service, which should be utilised; however, victims of the breach should also watch out for emails or calls that request any information from them. Banks or governmental institutions will never ask for personal data like passwords or anything similar over the phone.
“Ransomware groups target organisations of all sizes, not just high-profile ones. Smaller companies are also vulnerable to attacks, as they can be used as a weak link in the supply chain of larger organisations. To protect against these threats, every organisation, regardless of size, must prioritise asset protection and be aware of the potential risks associated with supply chain security.”
