It’s a terrible disease and this is a cause well worth supporting;
The insurance sector will once again unite this year for the return of Insurance Day for Dementia (IDFD). Taking place on Thursday 27 November 2025, the day provides a unique opportunity for individuals and firms to come together across the industry to raise vital funds and shine a much-needed light on dementia – the UK’s biggest killer.
This year, the campaign is calling on the whole industry to get involved on the day. There are so many ways to do this, from organising fundraising activities within the workplace, hosting a company takeover in a London tube station or pledging a corporate donation, for example.
The well-established IDFD Lunch and Learn webinar series will also return on 27 November, open to all those across the insurance industry looking to gain a wider insight into the dementia landscape, the exciting progress being made, and hear personal stories from those affected by the disease from across the sector. Last year, over 160 colleagues joined Alzheimer’s Society for the online session and registration is open for 2025 now. Visit www.alzheimers.org.uk/iuad for more information on the webinar and getting involved in the day.
Many firms across the industry including Arch Insurance, PIB Group, Legal and General, Benefact Group, Lancashire Group and many more, have already committed to taking part through a range of events and activities that will make a lasting impact for those living with dementia. Given almost half of the 300,000 colleagues working in the industry will be affected by dementia either directly or through caring for a loved one, there is no better time to unite with colleagues across the sector and get involved in this powerful movement.
Since the launch of Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) in 2017, the campaign has gone from strength to strength, having now raised over £11 million for Alzheimer’s Society in the fight against dementia. IDFD has been a significant contributor to this impressive total and in 2024, the flagship event raised a record-breaking £245,000. Thanks to recent breakthroughs in research, we now know there is a credible future where dementia no longer devastates lives meaning as a society we are at an exciting tipping point for dementia. The collective action from across the industry this Insurance Day for Dementia could be game-changing and continues to help Alzheimer’s Society accelerate progress in the dementia landscape.
Chris Lay, Chair of the IUAD Board and CEO of Marsh McLennan commented “Insurance Day for Dementia is an annual testament to what our industry can achieve when we come together. We’re not just uniting to raise money – we’re accelerating change across the dementia landscape. Like so many, my family and I have seen first-hand the devastating impact dementia has. With nearly 1 million people living with the disease in the UK, and many more caring for loved ones, the IUAD campaign’s mission has never been more urgent.”
He continued, “Last year’s Insurance Day for Dementia was both inspiring and record-breaking, and this year we want to go even further, uniting even more industry colleagues to join our shared mission. Our industry is truly there to protect people in times of need. With collective action this IDFD, I believe we can continue to have a significant impact and lead the way towards a future where dementia no longer devastates lives.”
