Targa Telematics Teams Up With Motability Operations

The UK Motability scheme has expanded rapidly in recent years as benefits consumers demand independent transport, rather than bus or train passes. That offers opportunities to insurance brands as up to three drivers per vehicle can be insured on one taxpayer funded car. Here’s the word;

Targa Telematics, one of the leading global players in AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) for the development of digital solutions and platforms for connected mobility, has announced a partnership with Motability Operations, the company that runs the Motability Scheme. Customers on the Scheme can choose to exchange their enhanced mobility allowance for a vehicle lease package, connecting them to life-changing freedom.

Through this partnership, Targa Telematics will integrate OEM data into Motability Operations’ IT systems, enabling the delivery of smarter, data-driven services to customers. With a focus on vehicle maintenance, Targa Telematics’ solution will provide valuable insights to help ensure Motability Scheme vehicles remain safe, reliable, and compliant with maintenance standards. By incorporating a wide range of OEM data, regardless of vehicle make or model,

Motability Operations will be able to proactively monitor vehicle health, reduce the risk of breakdowns, VOR, and enhance fleet safety and security. These data-driven insights will also help identify and minimise operational inefficiencies, ensuring that Motability Scheme customers continue to benefit from the most advanced connected car technologies available, while enjoying a safer and more seamless mobility experience.

Targa Telematics has been successfully leveraging OEM vehicle data since 2017 to help businesses in transforming data streams into tangible value. The company aggregates, processes and converts inputs from embedded telematics gateways into actionable insights while managing the inherent complexity of these processes. This collaboration marks another large-scale deployment of OEM data by Targa Telematics and represents a significant step forward in leveraging car manufacturers’ connected vehicle technology to enhance fleet operations.

Targa Telematics’ solution will be integrated in phases across the Motability Operations fleet, with plans to progressively extend coverage to all Scheme vehicles.

Motability Operations will continue to manage vehicle registrations independently, while Targa’s data-driven solutions will focus on enhancing productivity and efficiency across fleet management operations.

Chris Horbowyj, UK Commercial Director at Targa Telematics, commented“We are delighted to partner with Motability Operations, as it marks an important step in the practical use of OEM data at scale. Our role is to ensure that data from different vehicle manufacturers can be collected, standardised, and converted into actionable insights in a way that supports Motability Operations’ day-to-day work and, most importantly, enhances the experience and safety of the customers they serve. We believe this Partnership will drive efficiency, safety, and data reliability, benefiting Motability Operations and advancing our goal of creating a stronger foundation for future connected vehicle services.”

“The Motability Scheme exists to enable independence for disabled people, providing access to safe, reliable and affordable mobility that helps customers stay connected,” said Andy Broadfield, Managing Director of Electric & Insurance at Motability Operations. “A dependable vehicle is central to that independence. This partnership with Targa Telematics supports our simple model by helping us use vehicle data to better monitor vehicle health, reduce the risk of breakdowns and maintain high standards of safety and compliance. By taking a more proactive approach to vehicle maintenance, we can give customers greater confidence in the vehicles they rely on and help to deliver value through the Motability Scheme.”
