Flood Re Campaign Highlights Potential Risks & Prevention

The word from Flood Re as they use on-street media to raise awareness;
Flood Re has today launched a UK-wide educational tour promoting flood resilience and encouraging people to rethink the response to flood risk.
The campaign features the use of the UK’s largest digital advertising van which will show educational videos with 3D anamorphic visual illusions showcasing the emotional aftermath of flooding, beyond the impact to material possessions. The videos will also signpost viewers to look at the practical steps that can be taken to protect homes and prevent future damage.
Flood Re experts will travel alongside the van to speak to communities and stakeholders about the Flood Re Scheme, the Build Back Better initiative and the wider role of property flood resilience in helping households prepare for a changing climate.
The van is being unveiled outside Liverpool’s Exhibition Centre today, to coincide with this year’s Flood & Coast Conference before embarking on a tour that will take in some of the UK’s most flood hit communities, visiting Gloucester, Pontypridd and Carlisle over the summer, followed by London, Nottingham and Hull in the autumn.
This campaign comes as the latest national flood risk assessment shows that 6.3 million English properties are in areas at risk of flooding with surface water flooding emerging as a major issue. Driven by more intense downpours linked to climate change, surface water flooding occurs when rainfall overwhelms local drainage systems – and it can happen anywhere, even far from rivers or coastlines and even at the top of a hill. Without action, 8 million properties are expected to be at risk by 2050.
As Flood Re approaches its tenth anniversary, the campaign will call on people to “ReThink risk, ReThink resilience and ReThink the future”, underlining the need for action from households, industry and government.
Kelly Ostler-Coyle, Director of Corporate Affairs at Flood Re commented:
“A decade on from Flood Re’s inception, it is more important than ever to think about how we can build a more resilient future through action, skills and policy.”

“Flood Re remains committed to working with communities to drive forward flood resilience and build a future where homes, businesses and local economies are not just defended against flooding but prepared to withstand and recover from it.”
