Latest Quarterly Trends in Focus for J.D. Power

The latest Quarterly Insurance Signals Intelligence Report – formerly known as the Loyalty Indicator & Shopping Trends (LIST) Report – from JD Power, conducted in collaboration with TransUnion, provides an overview of shopping, switching, and loyalty behavior for auto, home, and renters insurance in the US market. Here’s the word FYI;

This new report discusses trends in Q2 2026.

Auto insurance: The shopping rate was down but the switching rate was up. The overall shopping rate was 12.6%, which was down by 1.0 points quarter-over-quarter and down by 0.4 points year-over-year. The switching rate was 4.5%, which was up by 0.3 points quarter-over-quarter and up by 0.3 points year-over-year.

Home insurance: The shopping and switching rates moved differently. The overall shopping rate was 7.1%, which was down by 0.3 points quarter-over-quarter and up by 0.6 points year-over-year. The switching rate was 2.5%, which was up by 0.3 points quarter-over-quarter and unchanged year-over-year.

Renters insurance: The shopping and switching rates moved differently here as well. The overall shopping rate was 6.3%, which was down by 0.1 points quarter-over-quarter and up by 0.4 points year-over-year. The switching rate was 3.4%, which was up by 0.4 points quarter-over-quarter and down by 0.8 points year-over-year.

As the report notes, data suggest the market for auto and property may be moving beyond peak intensity.

Beyond that, data suggest affordability may be driving coverage decisions, with consumers with greater financial flexibility continuing to actively shop for better value instead of just accepting higher premiums and more financially constrained customers, especially younger ones, appearing more likely to reduce coverage or let it lapse altogether.

The report also highlights which firms are winning and losing policies.
