The latest acquisition news from Hanwha Life;
Hanwha Life is accelerating efforts to strengthen its competitiveness as a comprehensive financial group by simultaneously expanding its capabilities in credit finance and reinforcing the capital base of its affiliated securities company.
Hanwha Life announced that its Board of Directors approved the acquisition of management control of Acuon Capital, currently owned by global private equity firm EQT, at a meeting held on September 30.
The acquisition will be made through a joint investment with Centroid PE, with Hanwha Life acquiring a 50.54% stake for KRW 440 billion.
Acuon Capital is the largest shareholder of Acuon Savings Bank, holding 100% of its shares. Through the acquisition, Hanwha Life will secure both Acuon Capital and its subsidiary, Acuon Savings Bank.
With this acquisition, Hanwha Life will establish a balanced business portfolio encompassing insurance, securities, asset management and specialized credit finance. By providing both individual and corporate customers with comprehensive financial services spanning insurance, lending and investment, Hanwha Life is expected to accelerate its transformation into a comprehensive financial group.
Through its entry into the capital finance business, Hanwha Life plans to secure new sources of revenue distinct from its core insurance business while strengthening its capabilities in corporate finance and investment finance. Leveraging the broad scope of the capital finance business, the company aims to further expand the foundation for growth across Hanwha Finance.
Established in 2006, Acuon Capital is a mid-sized finance company with total assets of approximately KRW 4.6 trillion as of the first half of 2026. As an independent company unaffiliated with a financial holding company or large corporate group, it has built expertise in corporate finance, investment finance and asset-based finance.
NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Hanwha Life plans to leverage Acuon Capital’s expertise in corporate and asset-based finance across the group to create new growth opportunities. The company aims to expand its customer and sales networks while strengthening asset-based finance through collaboration with Hanwha’s non-financial affiliates, creating new sources of revenue.
Acuon Capital is also expected to enhance its funding competitiveness based on an improved credit profile following its integration into Hanwha Life. This could provide additional growth opportunities through lower funding costs and improved operating performance.
Acuon Savings Bank, a subsidiary of Acuon Capital, was established in 1972 and is one of the industry’s five largest savings banks, with total assets of KRW 5.1 trillion. As of the end of June 2026, it operated three financial centers in Seoul and Busan and employed approximately 380 people.
Its core products include consumer loans, as well as loans for small and medium-sized enterprises and individual business owners, and mortgage loans. The company has also strengthened its digital, non-face-to-face sales capabilities through a proprietary IT infrastructure and digital platform, while expanding inclusive financial services for individuals and SMEs.
Hanwha Life plans to combine the capabilities of its existing subsidiary Hanwha Savings Bank with those of Acuon Savings Bank to establish a savings bank group with total assets of approximately KRW 6.5 trillion, with the aim of becoming the industry’s fourth-largest player. Its sales network will also expand from the Incheon and Gyeonggi regions to Seoul as well as Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do, covering both the greater Seoul metropolitan area and the Yeongnam region.
Hanwha Life plans to complete the acquisition of Acuon Capital following regulatory approval and the completion of relevant procedures.
On the same day, Hanwha Life’s Board of Directors also approved its participation in a paid-in capital increase for its affiliated securities company, Hanwha Investment & Securities. Hanwha Life and Hanwha Asset Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hanwha Life, will each invest KRW 250 billion.
The purpose of the capital increase is to strengthen Hanwha Investment & Securities’ core competitiveness through its designation as a Comprehensive Financial Investment Business Operator.
If Hanwha Investment & Securities strengthens its competitiveness following its designation as a Comprehensive Financial Investment Business Operator, the investment is expected to generate a range of benefits, including enhanced investment returns through the securities stake held directly or indirectly by Hanwha Life, as well as diversification of business and investment portfolios and expanded synergies across affiliates.
Through this investment, Hanwha Finance will complete a comprehensive financial value chain encompassing insurance, securities, asset management and credit finance. In particular, if Hanwha Investment & Securities advances as a Comprehensive Financial Investment Business Operator, its corporate finance capabilities will be strengthened. Combined with Acuon Capital’s expertise in credit finance, this would allow Hanwha Finance to provide corporate customers with comprehensive solutions spanning both capital markets and credit finance.
In addition, the integration of Acuon Savings Bank, a major savings bank with total assets of more than KRW 5 trillion, will expand Hanwha Finance’s reach in retail finance. This is expected to create greater opportunities to expand its financial product lineup by leveraging and connecting the customer bases of its affiliated companies.
“This investment marks an important turning point in our efforts to move beyond insurance and become a comprehensive financial group,” a Hanwha Life official said “Building on Hanwha Finance’s value chain encompassing insurance, securities, asset management and credit finance, we will provide customers with a broader range of financial services.”
