MARKERSTUDY

Markerstudy Insurance Services Limited has announced the appointment of Andy Squires as head of household underwriting, reporting to Will James, head of technical underwriting. With a career in the insurance industry spanning over 30 years, Andy is a highly experienced executive with expertise across underwriting, pricing and distribution. Prior to joining Markerstudy, Andy was underwriting manager for Car Care Plan Insurance and has also held senior roles at RSA, Folgate, Towergate, Fortis/Ageas and Integra Insurance Solutions.

Will James comments: “It’s great to be able to bring someone of Andy’s experience and calibre into the team at a time when demand for senior underwriters far outstrips supply in our industry. Our strategy is to nurture and develop our homegrown talent, and senior appointments such as Andy are hugely beneficial to our mentoring programmes.”

CONSILIUM

Consilium, the global speciality (re)insurance broking business of the Aventum Group, announces the appointment of Matthew Gould as Associate Partner placing International Casualty. Matthew was formerly a broker at Zeus.  He brings a truly unique skill set and impressive track record of placing specialist and complex Canadian, Australian and US construction liability risks in the London market.

With a law degree and background that covers both placing broking and claims adjusting at organisations including Tokio Marine Kiln and Ark Syndicate Management, Matthew has built a vast network of London Market contacts who value his ability to pre-underwrite policies using an in-depth and holistic understanding of every aspect of risk placement – from T’s & C’s and retentions to pricing and loss ratio evaluation.

The UK based international broking team will complement Consilium’s existing international broking operations in Latin America, the US and Australia.

FLETCHERS GROUP

Fletchers Group, one of the UK’s leading medical negligence and personal injury firms, has appointed Zoe Holland as its new Chief Commercial Officer.

With over 25 years’ industry experience, Holland is regarded as one of the UK’s most seasoned practitioners in mergers and acquisitions, business growth and operational due diligence matters. Using her background as a serious injury/clinical negligence lawyer together with C-Suite and finance experience, she has advised on some of the sector’s highest profile transactions in recent years.

In this newly created role, Holland will help Fletchers Group identify attractive M&A opportunities and develop new businesses as the firm looks to grow through further acquisitions after adding Minton Morrill, Cycle SOS and Blume to its roster since its acquisition by Sun Capital in October 2021. She will help build internal operational capability and act as a coach and mentor for high-potential female leaders in the business. She will also join the executive leadership team and report to Peter Haden, Fletchers Group Chief Executive Officer.

Holland is widely recognised for her expertise and success in helping legal and financial businesses scale, grow and innovate. In 2021, she was appointed to the Board of Frenkel Topping Group PLC as the AIM-listed group embarked upon an aggressive acquisition drive.

SCOR

The Board of Directors, acting on the proposal of the Nomination Committee, has unanimously decided to appoint Thierry Léger Chief Executive Officer of SCOR. Thierry Léger will take up his post as CEO of SCOR with effect from May 1, 2023. Leger will step down from his role at Swiss Re to join SCOR.

Thierry Léger has 25 years of experience in the reinsurance sector, holding key positions. His expertise covers life reinsurance, P&C reinsurance and alternative reinsurance. The Board of Directors is convinced that Thierry Léger has all the professional skills and managerial qualities required to succeed as CEO of SCOR. The Board of Directors will propose that Thierry Léger join the Board at the 2023 General Meeting.

François de Varenne, Executive Committee member in charge of Investments, Technology, Transformation and Group Corporate Finance, is appointed Interim CEO of SCOR with immediate effect until Thierry Léger takes up his post. The Board of Directors has asked its Chairman Denis Kessler to lend his support to François de Varenne and then Thierry Léger, to ensure the smooth running of this change in executive management.

BMS

BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, announces the appointment of Caroline Eyre as managing director of construction, effective April 2023.

Having amassed more than 20 years industry experience, Eyre joins BMS from Aviva where she most recently held the role of deputy CUO specialty lines and head of construction & LDI. She joined Aviva in 2019 and prior to this held numerous senior positions both in underwriting firms including CNA Hardy and Zurich Insurance. She was the winner of two awards at the Women in Insurance Awards 2021 for ‘underwriting professional’ and overall ‘women of the year (large firms)’.

Chris Ritchie, managing director of international direct and facultative said: “Caroline is an exceptional leader and a recognised expert in the construction sector. Encouraging a culture which attracts the most talented people and empowering them to expand their specialist market knowledge is the foundation of our success at BMS. Offering experience and a deep understanding, she is best qualified to continue our strategic expansion across all engineering lines.”

Eyre added: “I am delighted to be joining BMS and working with Chris. HSB

Specialist engineering and technology insurer, HSB, has appointed Niraj Shah as Chief Underwiring Officer for the UK and Ireland following the news that current Underwriting Director Stephen Morris is set to retire.

Based in London and reporting to HSB CEO Stephen Worrall, Niraj will be responsible for underwriting standards and strategy (across HSB UK and Ireland) and leadership of the Underwriting Standards and Strategy (USS) team. Following the transition of his Underwriting Director responsibilities to Niraj, Stephen Morris will continue to support HSB’s strategic business priorities until his retirement later in 2023.

Stephen Morris started at HSB in 2008 as part of the London and International team before becoming Chief Underwriting Officer and Underwriting Director in 2014. Prior to joining HSB, he held senior positions at RSA and worked as a Lead Underwriter for Gerling Insurance on some major construction projects, including the London Eye and the Millennium Bridge.

BEAZLEY

Beazley, the leading specialist insurer, has appointed Fred Kleiterp as European General Manager, as it continues its ambitious growth across Europe. Mr Kleiterp will lead Beazley’s expanding teams, which are located across the continent. Reporting to Adrian Cox, CEO, he will join the company on 1 June 2023 and become a member of the Executive Committee.

Mr Kleiterp’s appointment is a further step in Beazley’s ongoing investment in the development of its European business. With a significant programme of growth planned, the appointment further builds out the management structure of a business that today boasts offices in five countries, giving brokers access to specialist underwriting in classes as diverse as cyber and aviation.

Fred Kleiterp, was latterly CEO for EMEA at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, having previously led the division’s Asia Pacific operations and holding a number of senior positions in a more than twenty year career with the reinsurer. He started his career in insurance with Atradius in the Netherlands.

NOVIDEA

Novidea has appointed Yaniv Cohen as Chief Customer Officer (CCO).

With the company’s global scale-up, Cohen leads Novidea’s implementation and customer success strategy, ensuring smooth delivery of Novidea’s insurance management platform across the entire customer journey, from onboarding to contract renewal.

Cohen brings 20 years of experience in professional services, operations, and customer success to the position. He joins Novidea after spending six years as Corporate Vice President of Global Professional Services at Ex Libris, a SaaS and mobile solutions provider for the higher education market. Prior to Ex Libris, Yaniv spent over a decade at Verint Systems, a leading customer engagement platform. He held multiple senior roles at Verint, including COO, VP of Business Development, and VP of Customer Care. Yaniv also previously held executive positions at Emblaze Systems.

BERKELEY ALEXANDER

General insurance provider Berkeley Alexander is delighted to announce the appointment of Craig Powell as its new Sales & Business Development Director.

A former Senior Business Development Manager, Craig joins Berkeley Alexander from Gallaghers, although much of his career has been spent with Towergate, where he was the architect of its highly successful referral division, creating the brand, growing the book, and maintaining strong relationships with both Appointed Representatives and directly-authorised introducers.

With an 18-year background working for large UK insurance brokerages, Craig brings cross-class experience in almost every type of insurance, both personal lines and commercial, as well as a diverse range of expertise including sales, marketing, governance, and relationship management.  A well-known figure in the industry, his appointment injects a new level of dynamism as Berkeley Alexander grows its wholesale GI business and grasps the opportunity to grow its new referrals book.
