ACORD Releases Updated Information and Data Models

The latest update from ACORD;
ACORD has released enhanced online versions for two key components of the ACORD Reference Architecture: the ACORD Data Model and the ACORD Information Model. Available in this format for the first time, these browser-based tools can help organisations optimise the development, deployment, and modernisation of insurance industry applications.
ACORD Reference Architecture subscribers can access these new assets via ACORD Standards Online Applications, a digital interface featuring enhanced accessibility, navigability, and interactivity:
  • The ACORD Information Model, a formal and conceptual representation of data elements across all lines of business, provides a comprehensive framework of all fundamental insurance concepts (e.g. policies, products, parties, and claims) and a broad view of the relationships among them.
For example: A policyholder address change may be performed by a customer service representative, an agentic AI, or the policyholder themselves via a mobile app; but regardless of who executes the activity, the process must update the party model, and synchronise the change across mailing, billing, and CRM systems. An enterprise architect is faced with the challenge: How should I model the parties that perform the same address-change activity, while distinguishing the human and automated execution paths? The ACORD Reference Architecture provides the relevant model constructs for this analysis, facilitating each step of the process, from requirements to data design to validation.
